    Your Specific Responsibilities:

    This is an OPS Health Educator Position working 25 hrs a week in the Tobacco Prevention program. Individuals will be required to drive to local schools and to meetings/events locally and statewide. A valid Florida Driver's License is required.

     

    + Assists with organization and execution of events and meetings to promote health messages to community.

    + Provides Daily Administrative Functions.

    + Purchases promotional items and follows the program specific Purchasing Agreement(s) and prepares purchasing quotes and justifications as outlined within DOH purchasing guidelines.

    + Provides support and planning to ensure the goals of DOH-Wakulla’s Community Health programs are achieved.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

     

    Coordination of Local Tobacco Prevention Services

     

    + Responsible for the development of local Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) chapter within the community, including transporting and chaperoning youth to meetings, events, and trainings.

    + Responsible for assisting with the Tobacco Free Partnership of Wakulla. Will help with recruitment of partnership members, coordination of activities and organization of meetings.

    + Aids the Tobacco Prevention Specialist in completing workplan activities and objectives to support statewide tobacco prevention and health promotion initiatives as directed.

    + Serves as a resource to the community regarding tobacco prevention issues.

    + Develops and maintains documentation regarding services and expenditures for the tobacco prevention workplan.

    + Promotes the Three Ways to Quit and refers community members to tobacco cessation services offered at the local level.

    + Promotes a tobacco-free lifestyle in the community.

     

    Coordination of Regional SWAT Services

     

    + Participates in regular conference calls to include two monthly Youth Advocacy Board (YAB) conference calls, one monthly statewide SWAT conference call and webinar, and monthly Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida conference calls.

    + Assist in the preparation of regional Youth Advocacy Board members to facilitate and/or lead regional meetings and/or events.

    + Assist in the preparation of regional Youth Advocacy Board members to facilitate and/or lead tobacco education sessions.

    + Summarize evaluations from regional meetings in written format and submitting it to the BTFF Statewide Youth Advocacy Coordinator.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Knowledge of the principles and practices of health promotion and public health education.

    + Skilled with use of Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

    + Ability and skill in public speaking and teaching.

    + Ability to prepare reports.

    + Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

    + Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.

    + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    + Ability to work with both youth and adults.

    + Ability to attend meetings/events outside of normal work hours, including occasional nights and weekends.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum - Valid Florida Driver's License. High School or General Education Diploma. Experience using Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Must be willing and abe to work occasional nights and weekends.

     

    Preferred - Experience and comfort with public speaking and educating. Experience working with youth. Experience organizing/planning community events.
