    Your Specific Responsibilities:

    Manages the Plans Review Section, including movable bridge efforts, which include design reviews of in-house and design projects prepared by consulting engineering firms for all Districts. Plans, assigns, reviews and evaluates the engineering design work performed by assigned staff.

     

    Assists the State Structures Design Engineer in establishing and implementing policies and procedures for directing the structures design operation statewide. Analyzes and resolves complex technical problems concerning the design or construction of highway structures.

     

    Performs employee evaluations, time sheet and leave approvals, training activities and other required administrative activities. Plans, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the engineering design work performed by assigned staff.

     

    Coordinates and communicates with consultants, District Offices, other Florida Department of Transportation offices, Federal Highway Administration and other agencies involved in project development activities. Arranges and attends meetings as required to resolve problems and maintain project schedules. Assures that quality control procedures are implemented to provide quality designs and contract documents on schedule thereby making optimum use of state and federal funds.

     

    Reviews applications made by consultants for prequalification to do structures design work. Assists in preparation of scope of work for services, evaluates technical and man-hour proposals and participates in fee negotiations.

    The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge of:

    + The design and construction of major bridges including steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and post-tensioned concrete

    + The processes involved with the development of bridge plans, manuals and specifications.

    Skills in:

    + The development of bridge plans

    + the design of bridge components

    + The writing of construction specifications

    Ability to:

    + Manage, supervise and assign tasks to a diverse group of employees

    + Work with individuals or teams to resolve issues

    + Communicate effectively in writing and verbally

    + Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

    + Work independently and adapt to work situations and assignments

    + Evaluate engineering works and systems for areas of improvement.

    Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:

    + Registration as Professional Engineer pursuant to Chapter 471, Florida Statutes
