    Duties and Responsibilities

    The incumbent in this position will be trained to provide data mining support and statistical analysis in a timely and accurate manner, as requested, by the department's business units to aid in data-based decision-making. The incumbent will also learn how to recognize and reduce duplication of effort and improve efficiency by identifying, recommending, and participating in process and data quality improvement initiatives. The incumbent will also be trained to utilize the department's visualization tool for presentations and data analysis.

     

    The incumbent will also be responsible for developing and maintaining business relationships with users and technical (IT) personnel to identify problems and recommend solutions relevant to relational internal database design, maintenance, and usage.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    We will train the ideal candidate to utilize Structured Query Language (SQL) and Tableau data visualization software to perform statistical analysis of the department's data, produce requested reports for internal and external customers, recognize and communicate data trends to recommend improvements, and support a variety of projects as directed by the Statistics Unit Manager in the Office of Performance Management. The ideal candidate will have experience with the following:

     

    + Knowledge of data analysis and data research methods.

    + Understanding of data visualizations.

    + Skill in participation, development, and execution of project plans and initiatives.

    + Ability to work independently to complete daily responsibilities, and work within a team setting to accomplish group goals.

    + Skill in verbal and written communications and presentations.

    + Skill in problem identification and resolution.

    + Skill in office applications including Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel and Word) and PDFs

    + Ability to handle multiple priorities

    + Ability to work with and display sensitivity towards diverse groups of people

    + Ability to identify similar activities and offer solutions to prevent duplication of effort and improve efficiency

    + Ability to handle sensitive and confidential materials to protect the information from unauthorized access or distribution, and to further the department's public safety goals.

    + Experience with Structured Query Language (SQL) or working with databases preferred, but not required.

    + Experience with Tableau visualization software preferred, but not required.

    + Willingness to learn and accept guidance in a constructive manner.

    + Strong interpersonal skills, a positive "can do" attitude, and dependability are essential in the right person for this position.

     

    Job Related Requirements

     

    + The normal work schedule for this position is in-person at 2900 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, Florida from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

    + The position you are applying is subject to a Level 2 background check, along with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance, to include a fingerprint-based check of the criminal records of the FBI, as a condition of employment pursuant to Chapter 110.1127, 435 and 943, Florida Statutes. Please note that, since this position requires CJIS clearance, the Department will have access to all an applicant’s criminal and juvenile delinquency records, even those that have been sealed or expunged.

    GENERAL INFORMATION

    + The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview.

    + Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI.

    + FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to section 110.113, Florida Statutes.
