The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Positions in this series supervise professional engineering associates, technical engineering staff, and/or engineering students; direct activities of assigned staff, organize personnel, equipment and materials, and delegate assignments; evaluate the performance of employees according to established policies and work performance standards; ensure accurate and timely completion of work assignments; and provide guidance and training.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position supervises NDOT's Hazardous Material Section within the Environmental Services Program of the Environmental Division. Position duties are regulatory driven with consideration to regulations pertaining to a wide range of hazardous materials, petroleum waste products, and asbestos as primarily applied to roadway construction projects and Department operations. Review and monitor Department operations for environmental concerns. Manage service provider procurement process and serve as project manager providing oversight on service provider agreements. Inspecting and reviewing Department facilities and practices. Manage projects and permits related to subsurface controlled discharges, spill/release incidents, and other regulatory issues as they occur. Manage subsurface assessments and remedial projects and UST removals. Survey structures for presence of asbestos and provide management requirements and action-related regulatory direction. Represent the Department, in support or behalf of, in regulator-related communications related to Position responsibilities.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR certified as an Engineering Intern and two years of professional engineering experience; OR two years of experience comparable to the Staff I, Associate Engineer or the Supervisor I, Associate Engineer level.

Employees in this class who are not licensed professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities.

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
