Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Correctional Casework Specialists perform duties involving the evaluation and classification of individual inmates incarcerated within State correctional facilities; maintain a comprehensive record of each inmate regarding personal data, legal data, criminal history, institutional adjustment, program needs, program achievements, classification history and rule infractions as stipulated under NRS Chapter 209; evaluate, develop and implement plans for inmate program participation.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Correctional Caseworker Specialist II will be directly under the supervisor of the Correctional Caseworker Specialist III. They will be sitting on classification committees and inmate reviews. They will be evaluating files to assist in decision-making; document custody, housing and job changes; conduct classification hearings. CCWS II will assume a caseload encompassing special status inmates; monitor due process rights on inmates; respond to inmate communications; investigate issues regarding inmate funds, property and problems; coordinate inmate transfers to other facilities; coordinate inmate cell moves; chair/sit on disciplinary committees; process paperwork; document files; track all pertinent inmate disciplinary action; prepare parole progress reports regarding inmate history/activity prior and during incarceration. Coordinate inmate releases with pertinent institutional staff; provide notification of discharge to inmate, inmate family, staff and local law enforcement. Attempt to solve problems prior to inmate submitting a grievance; investigate specific issues brought forth by inmates. Train new CCWST?s on techniques, procedures and performance standards

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school and five years experience in a correctional, parole and probation or comparable setting conducting casework services and investigations and preparing detailed reports for the purpose of rehabilitation, program development, and program services of clients or the institutional classification and disciplinary process of inmates; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, social work, public administra-tion or closely related field and three years experience as described above; OR Master's degree with specialization in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, social work, public administration or closely related field and two years of experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Correctional Casework Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
