    Job Description Summary

    The purpose of this position is to provide research support for the conduct of a minimum of two studies: 1) the NCI Cervical Cancer ‘Last Mile’ Initiative ‘Self-collection for HPV testing to Improve Cervical Cancer Prevention’ (SHIP) Trial and 2) the Breast Cancer Research Foundation funded “A pilot cluster randomized controlled study (RCT) of “Just ASKTM” to increase cancer clinical trial participations for all patients with breast cancer”. The SHIP Trial seeks to collect research evidence to inform regulatory approvals for HPV testing by self-collection for cervical cancer screening in the United States. Self-collection approaches under evaluation in the SHIP Trial include specific self-collection device/HPV testing assay combinations and their associated instructions for use (IFU) and specimen processing steps submitted for regulatory review to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) by various industry sponsors. Evidence from the SHIP Trial is expected to inform FDA’s pre- and post-regulatory approval considerations. The pilot cluster RCT of ASCO-ACCC’s “Just ASK™” unconscious bias training will determine feasibility (including recruitment and dropout rates) of RCT, the cluster design effect and the variance, and minimal clinical importance difference in the primary outcome, oncologist discussion of breast cancer clinical trials (CCTs) and explore factors associated with applying the “Just ASKTM” framework in the practice setting.

    Job Description

    Job Responsibilities

    + The research coordinator will have the following specific responsibilities:

    + Screen and identify patients referred for colposcopy or LEEP at the Dickens and Penn OBGyn Associations (POGA) clinics and are also eligible for the SHIP trial and subsequently schedule study appointments with patients who agree to participate.

    + Attend in-person study visits to consent and enroll patients in the SHIP trial as well as facilitate study activities including questionnaires, self-collection, and clinician collection.

    + Collect, review and report timely, valid, accurate study data (managed on DFweb, REDCap and Velos) and conduct data queries as needed. Update/maintain study record in the Clinical Trials Management System (CRMS aka Velos) in real-time including study status, screening logs, serious adverse events and subject enrollment status. Maintain clinical trial databases by completing case report forms within 5 business days of subject visits and resolving data queries within 5-7 days of issuance. These timelines may be shortened during periods of data lock or in preparation for abstract/manuscript submission.

    + Collaborate with SHIP study team to facilitate proper shipment of study samples in accordance with International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) standards.

    + Participate in weekly or bi-weekly meetings with PI and Sponsor and SHIP team meetings to review the study status. Prepare agendas and record minutes for circulation. Present regular updates to the research team and sponsor.

    + Adhere to the requirements of the University of Pennsylvania, GCP, FDA and all applicable regulatory bodies.

    + For the Just ASK cluster RCT, the coordinator will recruit teams of breast cancer providers at all six of the Abramson Cancer Center (ACC)’s hospitals, oversee their randomization to Just ASK training (intervention) or control and assure that team members complete the training, study procedures which include questionnaires and in-depth interviews.

    + Collect and manage quantitative data from the Just ASK cluster RCT (managed in REDCap) and use N-Vivo to support the analysis of qualitative data to determine the intervention effectiveness, identify barriers and facilitators to intervention implementation, and analyze aspects of the dialogue between patient and provider that lead to participation in breast cancer trials.

    + Other responsibilities as reasonably assigned.

     

    Position is contingent upon continued funding. Some work occurs outside of regular business hours as well as off-campus.

    Qualifications:

    The coordinator (1) may be enrolled in or have completed a Bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master's degree a plus." ; (2) will receive training by the study’s clinical research coordinator and PI. Prior patient oriented research experience is not required but a plus if present ; (3) Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills; (3) Must have the ability to learn new methods quickly and multi-task; (4) Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team as well as independently; (5) Knowledge or experience in oncology preferred but not required; (6) Ability to work flexible hours; (7) Possess working knowledge of the IRB and human research protection regulations and Title 21 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), International Conference of Harmonization (ICH) and Good Clinical (Research) Practice (GCP) Guidelines. Therefore, at minimum, the coordinator must have documented completion of CITI training. (7) The coordinator should have documentation of HIPAA training (required yearly).

    Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job’s level. Internal organization and peer data at Penn are also considered.
