POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY:
Elections Specialists are key personnel that work to ensure a safe and secure elections throughout the year. Specialists perform a wide variety of tasks related to the election process, including managing elections programs, systems, and related personnel, assisting in training seasonal election personnel, performing detailed data entry, confirming that work is done accurately and on a timely basis and performing related office work as required. The position works under general supervision to carry out work assignments in accordance with instructions, policies, procedures, and Idaho Code. The position reports to the Elections Office within the Ada County Clerk/Auditor/Recorder's Administration.
PLEASE NOTE: This position will focus on Voter Registration assistance which involves detailed data entry, customer service, and will include all of the essential functions listed below.

Essential Functions
+ Engage with Ada County Voters, in-person, on site, and throughout county locations, to ensure they have the ability to exercise their right to vote, including voter registration, absentee requests, and general questions regarding voting in Idaho;
+ Work with team members to ensure the successful completion of all elections, including setting polling locations, recruitment of poll-workers, training of workers, programing and deployment of elections equipment, and support on election day;
+ Assists candidates and various groups regarding application of Idaho law as it pertains to elections;
+ Applies the provisions of the Idaho Code to the conduct of elections in a fair and open manner;
+ Provides onsite training for and manages elections related programs such as phone banks, voter registration efforts (in-house and at large), mail out ballot programs, early voting centers, training of temporary election workers, election day personnel, etc.;
+ Answers inquiries according to established departmental policy and Idaho law governing elections;
+ Reviews accounts, reports and other documents for completeness, accuracy and conformity with established procedures and Idaho Code, as they pertain to elections;
+ Files documents and answers questions regarding the work of the office;
+ Proofreads type written and printed materials.
Job Requirements
+ High school diploma or equivalent;
+ Good knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation;
+ Good knowledge of general office equipment and filing systems;
+ General knowledge of elections;
+ General knowledge of office routines and telephone etiquette;
+ General knowledge of data base entry and proofing data entry and documents;
+ Skill in time and task management;
+ Skill in data entry;
+ Skill in written and verbal communications;
+ Skill in operating multiple telephone lines;
+ Ability to ask questions for clarification and immediately bring mistakes to the Supervisor’s attention;
+ Ability to learn a multitude of processes and manage them in accordance with Idaho Statutes;
+ Ability to work with processes ranging from the very specific requiring attention to minute detail to vague requirements requiring mature judgment and input from co-workers, the Election Director, the Election Supervisor, and the Voter Services Supervisor;
+ Knowledge of computer based election tabulation systems preferred;
+ Knowledge of the Idaho State Voter Registration System preferred;
+ Knowledge of County ordinances pertaining to Initiatives and Referendums and Idaho Code as it pertains to elections preferred;
+ Knowledge of personnel management and training/instruction in programs and processes preferred;
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
+ Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license;
+ Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background investigation;
+ Incumbents may be required to provide their own transportation for travel between various county offices and departments;
+ Working hours are generally from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, but may vary with the needs of the County. During elections time (generally two times a year) will include some evening and/or weekend work, including overtime. In the event of serious systems problems, additional hours may be required.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
+ Work is primarily performed onsite at the Ada County Election Office and on location at county voting sites.
+ Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions,
+ Local travel between various county offices and county voting sites;
+ The incumbent will be required to lift up to 40 lbs.;
+ Occasionally requires working in limited access spaces and hard to reach areas;
+ Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.
