Summary This position is located in the Professional Learning and Outreach Initiatives Office of the Center for Learning, Literacy and Engagement in the Office of the Librarian. The salary range indicated reflects the basic pay adjustment of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position. The incumbent for this position will work a full-time, flextime schedule. The position description number for this position is 463627. Responsibilities The Center for Learning, Literacy, and Engagement (CLLE) is responsible for producing dynamic experiences that connect public audiences with the unparalleled collections and expertise of the Library. The Professional Learning and Outreach Initiatives Office (PLOI)’s work informs, inspires, and engages the Library’s nationwide Connectors specifically educators, librarians, early researchers, and literacy champions. The incumbent of this position will oversee the Affiliated Centers for the Book (CFB) program, coordinating activities and projects related to the promotion of reading, books, literacy, and literary heritage. The incumbent performs coordination and administrative activities which are related to the program, such as overseeing communication with and among the 56 affiliated CFB directors, coordinating online and in-person meeting logistics, coordinating and promoting the annual Great Reads selections by the CFBs and their National Book Festival participation, and contributing to other organizational and administrative tasks, including the development of reports. The incumbent also supports strategic planning efforts of the CBMs, coordinates and reports on implementation efforts. The incumbent serves as the primary point of contact between the Library and the affiliated Centers for the Book. Promotes effective communication, orally and in writing, between the affiliated Centers and the Library, and among the Centers. Responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with the affiliated Centers’ directors, CLLE staff at multiple levels, as well as across the institution, and with other external partners. Responsible for and ensures the timeliness of content shared on the Library’s website about affiliated Centers’ activities. Oversees promotional activities related to affiliated Centers programming, including print, web and social media efforts. Ensures that affiliated Centers are aware of Library programming and priorities, informs Library colleagues about the programming and priorities of the Centers, and strives for alignment. Incumbent is responsible for setting the tone for the Affiliated Centers for the Book overall programmatic agenda and ensures mission alignment. Works with management in collaboration with CFB directors to implement log-range strategic plans. Contributes to the development of common guidelines, agreements, policies, training manuals, and toolkits for affilitated Centers’ operations and programming. Coordinates joint efforts of the CFBs. Conducts periodic and comprehensive evaluations of ongoing functions to ensure the program meets its stated goals. Identifies areas where operational efficiency can be enhanced. Recommends actions necessary to maintain or improve the quality and quantity of operational services, introducing or refining automation, proposing creative solutions to maximize resources. Plans and oversees special projects for major Library organization or program with broad impact, such as those on a Library or nation-wide level. Implements new initiatives and projects to strengthen, facilitate, and integrate programs. Performs various other duties as assigned.
