The Elementary School Principal is a key instructional leader and administrator responsible for overseeing all aspects of a school's academic programs, student services, staff performance, and school operations. This position requires a visionary, collaborative, and organized individual who can foster a safe, inclusive, and high-achieving learning environment for students and staff. The Principal ensures that the school functions in accordance with district policies, state regulations, and best practices in education.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

+ Provides instructional leadership by guiding curriculum development, instructional practices, and assessment to improve student learning outcomes;

+ Supervises, evaluates, and supports the professional development of teachers and staff;

+ Creates and maintains a positive school climate focused on academic excellence, student engagement, equity, and well-being;

+ Leads and manages the day-to-day operations of the school, including scheduling, budgeting, facilities, and compliance with safety protocols;

+ Collaborates with families, staff, and the broader community to support student achievement and school improvement goals;

+ Oversees implementation of district and state policies, as well as federal programs such as Title I and special education services;

+ Analyzes school performance data to inform decision-making and implement targeted interventions;

+ Addresses student discipline in a fair and consistent manner, promoting positive behavior and restorative practices;

+ Leads school-based initiatives aligned with the district's strategic plan;

+ Serves as a liaison between the school and district administration;

+ Coordinates emergency procedures and crisis response efforts;

+ Promotes a culture of respect, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

+ Deep knowledge of elementary curriculum, instructional practices, and child development;

+ Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills;

+ Ability to inspire, mentor, and evaluate instructional staff;

+ Knowledge of educational laws, regulations, and district policies;

+ Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with students, staff, families, and community partners;

+ Data-driven decision-making skills;

+ Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices;

+ Ability to manage multiple priorities and handle high-pressure situations with professionalism.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

+ Master's Degreein Educational Leadership, School Administration, or a related field;

+ New York State School Building Leader (SBL) Certificationor equivalent administrative certification;

+ Minimum ofthree (3) years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level;

+ Prior experience in educational leadership or supervision is preferred.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

+ Twelve (12) month position

+ Salary and benefits per negotiated administrative contract

EVALUATION:

+ Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policies and the Board of Education's standards for school leadership.
