The Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the safety programs across all telecommunications operations, including field installations, tower climbs, and infrastructure projects. This position plays a critical leadership role in fostering a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards, and driving continuous improvement. The Safety Manager supervises a team of safety professionals and a Fleet Coordinator, and works closely with operations, HR, and senior leadership. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: · Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and training programs. · Supervise and mentor a team of safety personnel; assign duties, monitor performance, and support professional development. · Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections across job sites and facilities. · Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring accurate documentation and implementation of corrective actions. · Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, FCC, and state/local safety regulations specific to telecom operations. · Maintain safety performance metrics and report KPIs to leadership on a regular basis. · Coordinate with project and operations teams to integrate safety planning into all phases of telecom projects. · Manage the onboarding and safety orientation of new hires and subcontractors. · Oversee safety committee meetings and serve as a primary point of contact for all safety-related matters. · Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes and communicate relevant updates across the organization. · Support emergency preparedness and response initiatives including drills and contingency planning. · Oversee the company s fleet safety program, including safe driving policies, accident prevention, and driver behavior monitoring. · Implement and enforce DOT/FMCSA compliance for commercial motor vehicles, including driver qualification files, Hours of Service (HOS), and vehicle inspections. · Monitor fleet utilization and collaborate on cost reduction and efficiency strategies. · Responsible for work related incidents including documentation, filing OSHA 300, etc. · Supervise and mentor direct reports, including Safety Coordinators and the Fleet Coordinator. · Collaborate with third-party vendors to ensure compliance with driver safety regulations and standards. · Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PROFILE § Bachelor s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. Equivalent experience may be considered. § Minimum 5 years of experience in safety management role, with at least 2 years in utility, telecommunications or construction. § Proven experience as a safety/fleet manager or similar position. § Strong knowledge of OSHA, FCC, and industry-specific safety standards (e.g., tower climbing, RF safety). § OSHA certification required. § National Safety Council Instructor Certified (NSC) required § Professional certification preferred: CSP, CHST, or equivalent. § Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. § Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software platforms. § Ability to respond to overnight accidents and/or injuries, providing timely support and coordination as needed. § Willingness to travel to field sites (25 50%). REQUIRED SKILLS § Understanding of federal, state, and city safety requirements, in particular OSHA. § Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines. § Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees and project managers. § In-depth knowledge of OSHA guidelines and practices. § Experience in reporting and developing policies. § Experience in implementing OSHA training programs. § Ability to teach First Aid/CPR, pole climbing and other similar certifications a plus. § Spanish fluency a plus WORK ENVIRONMENT This position requires both office work and field visits. Must be able to access job sites, climb ladders/towers (as needed), and work in varying weather conditions. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. The noise level in the work environment ranges from normal office levels to loud levels due to equipment and machinery use SAFETY EXPECTATIONS · Provide the resources, direction and audits to integrate safety into the management system. · Establish and maintain safety education and training program. · Periodically conduct safety surveys, meetings, and inspections. · Advise supervisors, employees, and the safety committee on safety policies and procedures. · Coordinate safety training for newly hired employees, along with employee s manager and Human Resources. · Prepare and maintain safety records, analyses, evaluations and reports to improve the company s safety performance and comply with all government agencies, insurance carriers and internal procedures. · Work with management, supervisors, safety committees and employees to maintain and implement new and ongoing safety programs and comply with recommendations provided by outside consultants, OSHA inspectors, and insurance companies. · Make available all necessary personal protective equipment, job safety material, and first-aid equipment. · Investigate and review all accidents with Human Resources, management, supervisors, the safety committee, and/or employees and ensure that corrective action is taken immediately.
