Description of Work
The NCDOT Transportation Planning Division, located in Raleigh, has an immediate opening for an entry level Transportation Engineer in our Traffic Forecasting Group. The purpose of the Traffic Forecasting Group is to develop and maintain administrative and technical standards relating to traffic forecasting; and to prepare traffic forecasts for highway projects being considered for inclusion in the State Transportation Improvement Program, for projects being developed consistent with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and for projects in final design. We are searching for an Engineer I to join our team. This position will work out of the Transportation Building located at 1 South Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC. This is a permanent position with the state of North Carolina that offers all available state benefits including vacation and sick leave. This position serves as a Traffic Forecaster within the Traffic Forecasting Group working closely with traffic forecasting team members. The position produces both simple and complex traffic forecasts including: selection and analysis of appropriate traffic and land use data; estimation of current traffic volumes; forecast future traffic volumes; and preparation of traffic forecast technical reports that explain in detail the technical processes used and decisions made in developing traffic forecasts.
The successful applicant will have a knowledge of traffic forecasting practices, experience in the production of project-level traffic forecasts, and project management skills. Your application should reflect experience in the Knowledge/Skills and Abilities/Competencies outlined below.

+ Experience using Word and Excel
Additional Expectations: Must have the ability to work closely with others and possess good communication skills, both orally and in writing.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors
