    Summary This Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) position will be assigned to the Golf Course at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. The primary function of the position is to perform heavy laboring tasks, which require significant manual skill and very heavy physical effort to operate equipment necessary to maintain golf course grounds. * See Physical Effort requirements in the Qualifications section below. Responsibilities Introduction: The position is located at the golf course within the Services Squadron. The primary function of the position is to perform heavy laboring tasks, which require significant manual skill and very heavy physical effort to operate equipment necessary to maintain golf course grounds. Regular & Recurring Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent performs significant labor involved with golf course grounds maintenance. Operates heavy, complex riding lawn mowers and similar types of specialized mowing equipment (e.g., multiple and independently-controlled cutting decks, single function components) and/or specially designed riding mowers that operate on slopes and require constant attention to working space and environment. Operates various controls and levers to maneuver equipment and lift, lower, adjust, engage, and disengage components or attached devices when working around: trees, greens, aprons, tees, fence lines, banks and hillsides, cart paths, sand bunkers, tee markers and cups on greens, trenches, slopes, curbs, rocks and other visible obstacles. Determines and selects the most appropriate type of equipment to accomplish each phase of the work in the most productive and cost-effective manner. Completes all aspects of special assignments involving several steps, phases or detailed procedures (e.g., preparing ground, laying sod, planting flowers or shrubs and using simple drawings to establish a planting pattern and/or design). The laborer installs forms and lays walks and paths using gravel and asphalt mixes; excavates and backfills ditches and trenches with hand tools; repairs and replaces pipe on irrigation systems; and may be asked to operate mowers, dump trucks or other equipment. Performs other duties as directed by his/her supervisor. Skill and Knowledge: Knowledge to operate and control large, complex riding mowers and similar types of specialized mowing equipment. Skill in operating various controls and levers to maneuver equipment and lift, lower, adjust, engage and disengage components or attached devices which are designed to support the function of the equipment and required minimal mechanical knowledge to attach and operate. Skill to maneuver equipment in areas that require constant attention to working space and environment (e.g., equipment height and width when working around trees, trenches, large potholes, slopes, curbs, rocks and other visible obstacles). Ability to apply a practical knowledge of project requirements to accomplish all aspects of special assignments involving several steps, phases or detailed procedures (e.g., preparing ground, laying sod, planting flowers or shrubs and using simple drawings to establish a planting pattern and/or design). Responsibility: Supervisor assigns area of responsibility and provides directions as to the nature of the work to be done. Employee independently completes routine assignments in accordance with general policy, past practice or simple drawings or specifications. Special projects are accomplished with periodic review by the supervisor. Incumbent performs duties in the safest possible manner to avoid creation of hazardous situations that may result in personal injuries or property damage and must demonstrate safe and efficient operating techniques in the operation of specialized equipment. Employee regularly exercises judgment to accomplish work using required equipment. Completed work may be reviewed by the supervisor for overall accomplishment, quality, care of equipment and fulfillment of project requirements. Worker is responsible to observe all safety, environmental and security rules and to identify obvious hazards, malfunctioning equipment, damaged materials and other situations that may impact work operations and report such matters to the supervisor. Qualifying Experience: Must have experience which demonstrates knowledge of: large, complex riding mowers and similar types of specialized mowing equipment; skill in operating various controls and levers to maneuver equipment and lift, lower, adjust, engage and disengage components or attached devices; skill in controlling and maneuvering large, complex mowing equipment; ability to independently complete assignments involving several steps, phases or procedures; ability to follow written and/or oral instructions; ability to lift and move heavy objects weighing over 50 pounds (23 kilograms). Condition(s) of Employment: Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Requires a valid driver's license. Successful completion and favorable adjudication of applicable background investigation (Tier 1 Level) is required. Physical Effort: Exerts very heavy physical effort in operating large riding mowers on grades and in areas with bushes, trees and other visible obstacles that require significant maneuvering and lever control. Some arm and leg movement is required to manipulate equipment controls. Employee frequently lifts and moves equipment and components weighing over 50 pounds (23 kilograms). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional Information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position. U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. Territory for three (3) or more consecutive years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation or a signed memorandum indicating the installation's decision on the 3-year residency requirement..
