Position Overview:

The Vice President, Clinical Innovation Officer supports the execution of Sutter Health’s innovation strategy by managing the end-to-end innovation lifecycle—from opportunity identification and evaluation to concept development, pilot execution, and post-pilot assessment. Partners closely with internal teams and external collaborators to source, vet, and accelerate high-potential initiatives that align with strategic priorities set by the Digital Strategy team. Coordinates cross-functional efforts to operationalize innovative ideas, working with the Digital and AI teams to assess emerging solutions, collaborating with Strategy and Operations to explore new business models, and supporting enterprise teams to scale successful innovations. Serves as a key liaison for fostering a culture of innovation across the organization and contribute to establishing Innovation as a high-velocity channel for strategic partnerships and rapid experimentation.
**Job Description** :
Education:
+ Bachelor's/Master's in Health Admin, Business, or other related field Required.
+ M.D or D.O required.
Experience:
+ 5–8 years of experience in innovation, strategy, healthcare operations, or related roles within complex, matrixed organizations.
+ Demonstrated record of managing cross-functional initiatives from concept to implementation in healthcare, technology, or startup environments.
+ Experience collaborating with senior leaders and multidisciplinary teams to translate strategic goals into actionable innovation opportunities.
Knowledge:
+ Deep understanding of innovation methodologies (e.g., design thinking, lean startup, agile development) and their application within complex organizations.
+ Solid grasp of healthcare industry dynamics, including care delivery models, regulatory considerations, and emerging trends in digital health and patient experience.
+ Working knowledge of enterprise strategy and governance frameworks to ensure alignment of innovation activities with organizational priorities.
+ Familiarity with commercialization processes, pilot design, and innovation life cycle stages—from ideation to scale.
+ Awareness of external innovation ecosystems, including academic, startup, and venture communities relevant to healthcare transformation
Experience:

+ Collaboration & Facilitation: Strong interpersonal and communication skills; adept at leading cross-functional workstreams, facilitating stakeholder input, and building consensus.
+ Analytical Ability: Proficient in synthesizing data, insights, and trends to inform decision-making and shape innovation strategies.
+ Adaptability: Comfortable navigating ambiguity and shifting priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
+ Execution Focus: Purposeful with a demonstrated ability to drive initiatives from concept through execution with measurable outcomes.
+ Tool Proficiency: Familiar with innovation platforms, project tracking tools, and data visualization software.
The primary office location of this position will be in Sacramento, CA or Emeryville, CA.

Pay Range is $204.33 to $276.44 / hour
_The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package._ __
