About the Role
The Senior Staff Accountant serves as a key contributor to the financial strength and operational excellence of Accord and its affiliates. This role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial data through comprehensive general ledger oversight, accurate reporting, and thoughtful financial analysis. More than just a technical accounting position, it integrates day-to-day financial operations with forward-looking insights to inform strategic decision-making. By maintaining accurate forecasting tools and helping to improve financial processes and systems, this role supports Accord’s ability to adapt to changing needs. The Senior Staff Accountant works closely with the Senior Director/VP to ensure smooth day-to-day financial operations, support audit and compliance efforts, and maintain a solid financial foundation for Accord’s mission-driven work.

Essential Responsibilities
Day-Day-Accounting Functions
+ Cash Reconciliation and Application across various revenue streams and ensure timely reconciliation of cash balances.
+ Bank Reconciliation across multiple accounts, promptly identifying and resolving discrepancies.
+ Accounts Payable support to audit and approve vendor invoices for accuracy, preparation of bi-wekly AP check and ACH payment batches for processing.
+ Payroll journal processing and reconciliation.
+ Process and reconcile intercompany journal entries on a daily basis to maintain transparency and consistency in consolidated financials.
General Accounting and Financial Reporting
+ Own the month end close process, ensuring accurate and timely reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
+ Prepare and review journal entries and allocations.
+ Maintain fixed asset schedules and manage depreciation entries.
+ Monitor and maintain current schedules of terms and amortization for all loans, leases and mortgages. Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis.
+ Perform in-depth general ledger analysis to ensure data accuracy and compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
+ Manage accounting for specialized program areas, including Shared Housing programs, grant funded initiatives and other Accord affiliates.
Financial Planning, Analysis and Audit Support
+ Support the Senior Director/VPin budgeting, forecasting and financial modeling for Accord and its affiliates.
+ Analyze monthly financial results, investigate variances and present clear insights to the Senior Director/VPin preparation for monthly financial statements.
+ Identify and investigate budget variances.
+ Preparing audit workpapers for Accord and affiliate companies
+ Prepare schedules and work with the Senior Director/VP to complete the annual audit as well as any other finance monitoring reviews.
Other Key Responsibilities
+ Serve as a backup for critical finance functions including accounts payable and cash receipt processing.
+ Provide full-cycle accounting support to Accord’s affiliate organizations, ensuring consistency and transparency in reporting.
+ Review and record lockbox cash receipts.
+ Troubleshoot ERP and FP&A software issues.
+ Improve efficiency and effectiveness of processes and systems through smart use of technology and digital tools.
+ Develop strategies to improve organizational efficiencies, including proactive identification of simplification and automation opportunities.
+ Review or create accounting processes and accounting policies as necessary. to maintain and strengthen internal controls
+ Ensure department’s compliance with organization’s record and retention policy schedule.
+ Contributes to Accord’s missions by performing other duties that may be assigned as necessary.
Requirements
Education:
+ Either a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance, or commensurate experience of five or more years in accounting and finance, with oversight or review responsibility of lower level accounting employees.
Skills & Experience:
+ Five years of Accounting experience, two years of which include oversight or review responsibility of lower level accounting employees.
+ Must have advanced knowledge of Excel, including Pivot tables, text to columns, filtering, VLOOKUP and other advanced formulas
+ Understanding GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
+ BA/BS in Accounting
+ CPA or FP&A experience preferred
+ Medical claims processing experience highly preferred
+ Experience with and knowledge of accounting software
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to give attention to financial detail
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to explain financial information
+ Excellent at working independently and as a part of the finance team, to share information and work collaboratively
+ Experience in nonprofit or health care environments is preferable but not required
