Job Summary:
The Safety and Security Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety and security programs that ensure the well-being of employees, visitors, and property. This role oversees building safety measures, enforces compliance with OSHA and other regulatory safety standards, and leads training programs to promote a culture of safety across the organization. The Hawai‘i Convention Center is a twenty-four hour per day, seven day per week security operation.
Essential Functions:
SAFETY MANAGEMENT
+ Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment in accordance with OSHA standards and other applicable regulations.
+ Conduct regular building safety inspections, hazard assessments, and risk analyses.
+ Oversee the maintenance of safety equipment, emergency systems, and fire prevention measures.
+ Ensure proper signage, accessibility, and building code compliance across all facilities.
+ Manages venue transportation operations so that transportation during events run smoothly to provide exceptional customer service to client(s). This may include freight, taxis, buses, passenger vehicles and/or pedestrians.
TRAINING & COMPLIANCE
+ Develop and deliver safety training programs, including new hire orientations, annual OSHA training, and specialized sessions.
+ Maintain training records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety training requirements.
+ Serve as the primary point of contact for OSHA inspections and ensure timely responses and corrective actions for any citations or recommendations.
SECURITY OVERSIGHT
+ Coordinate all physical security operations, including surveillance systems, access control, and visitor management procedures.
+ Respond to and investigate security incidents, thefts, or breaches, and implement corrective actions as needed.
+ Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency responders when necessary.
+ Conducts performance evaluations of staff.
+ Reports violations of company and/or department policies to Manager, upper management and/or Human Resources. Schedule meetings accordingly to review staff performance and to discuss necessary action(s). Provide documentation and recommendations, which may include disciplinary action or termination of employment.
EMERGENCY EVACUATIONS AND CRISIS SCENARIOS: Manages and/or assists in Emergency Evacuation and Crisis Scenario situations, practices and drills.
+ Manage emergencies when Director is absent. Assists in the management of emergencies when Manager is present.
+ Acts as first responder.
+ Ensures smooth training of participants in preparation of true evacuations and/or crises. Successfully participates in drills to test knowledge and practicality of evacuation/emergency procedures; conducts inspections of areas and reports to security base the status of the emergency.
+ May administer CPR/AED or First Aid as needed during emergency and/or crisis situations.
INCIDENT RESPONSE & REPORTING
+ Lead investigations for all workplace accidents, injuries, or security incidents, ensuring proper documentation and root cause analysis.
+ Maintain incident logs and prepare reports for senior leadership with recommendations for improvement.
LEADERSHIP & COLLABORATION
+ Partner with HR, Operations, and other departmental leaders to ensure integrated safety and security strategies.
+ Lead the Safety Committee and guide cross-functional safety initiatives and emergency preparedness plans.
Required Qualifications (Job Knowledge, Skills, and Education):
+ A minimum education level of: High School Diploma or its equivalency
+ A minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience with 2 years supervisory experience
+ Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
+ Strong communication skills both written and verbally. Must demonstrate proficiency in policy and report writing.
+ Strong training skills.
+ Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
+ Demonstrated ability to follow departmental and company procedures accurately and efficiently.
+ Able to inspect equipment with a high level of detail.
+ Maintains a professional, positive and friendly demeanor/attitude.
+ Excellent customer service and listening skills.
+ Experience with defusing and resolving situations with patrons/customers, demonstrating the ability to communicate clearly specific instructions and explanations.
+ Must be able to remain in an extended stationary position for entire shift (8-10 hours).
+ Must be able to walk, run or move quickly to respond to emergency situations.
+ Must be able to work varied shifts, weekdays, weekends, holidays and additional hours as venue schedule requires.
+ Maintain a working knowledge of security and transportation processes and best practices.
+ Proficient with Microsoft Office.
+ Strong leadership skills.
+ Must have the ability to work harmoniously in a team setting exhibiting the “Aloha Spirit” to fellow workers, guests, clients and the community so as to provide exceptional customer service while demonstrating behaviors that reflect the Hawai‘i Convention Center’s vision, mission statement and values.
Required Certification For Hire:
+ State of Hawai‘i Board of Private Security Certification (must be currently certified
Preferred Certifications: Listed below are preferred for candidate to currently posses however, will be required to obtain and maintain during employment.
+ OSHA 30, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Security Manager (CSM)
+ Other specialized certifications may be required to ensure compliance with Federal and/or State regulations to conduct safety training.
+ First Aid, CPR/AED Certification. Able to proficiently operate life safety systems and maintain solid working knowledge of emergency procedures.
Salary Range 90K to 100K
