About the Role:

Waste Connections is hiring an energetic and detail-oriented **Assistant Controller** to join our finance team in Elkhart, IN. This role offers strong growth potential and is designed to prepare you for a **promotion into a District Controller** position at one of our national locations.

Key Responsibilities:

As Assistant Controller, you will be responsible for a variety of accounting and finance functions, including:

+ Managing the **monthly financial close process** and preparing financial statements.

+ Performing **general ledger reconciliation** across multiple locations.

+ Creating **monthly variance analyses** comparing actuals vs. budget and forecast.

+ Preparing rolling **three-month financial forecasts** .

+ Conducting **rate and pricing analysis** .

+ Communicating financial insights to operational and management teams.

+ Ensuring **Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance** and internal control documentation.

+ Participating in the **annual budget planning process** .

+ Training non-financial staff on financial procedures and reporting.

+ Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

We’re seeking candidates who have:

+ A **Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance** (required).

+ 2+ years of prior experience in corporate or public accounting (preferred). Recent grads are encouraged to apply

+ CPA certification or CPA candidacy (a strong plus).

+ Advanced knowledge of **Microsoft Excel** and experience with accounting systems.

+ Strong organizational and analytical skills.

+ Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
