Responsibilities*

The Kresge Hearing Research Institute is seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in research. The Apostolides laboratory studies neurophysiology of central auditory circuits using electrophysiology and 2-photon imaging. Successful candidate will perform behavior experiments with mice, perform stereotaxic survival surgeries, manage the animal (rat+mouse) colonies, prepare standard lab buffers and acute brain slices for electrophysiology, perform histology, and data analysis. Additional responsibilities may include contributing to in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology/imaging experiments. The individual will be expected to play an active role in laboratory management such that strong organizational skills are required. Prior laboratory experience is highly recommended.

Required Qualifications*

+ HS Diploma or Assoc Degree

+ Experience in handling of mice or rats is required.

+ Familiarity with laboratory maintenance and organization and scientific method.

+ Ability to work independently and to manage multiple research projects simultaneously.

+ Strong oral and written communication skills are required.

+ Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a collaborative environment.

Desired Qualifications*

+ BA/BS in neuroscience, psychology, biology, or related field.

+ 1-2 years of experience with stereotaxic surgery, histological methods, and animal behavior is desired.

+ Experience with electrophysiology, imaging, and/or computer programming is preferred.
