    This exciting opportunity will play a key role in outlining novel and innovative materials for usage within Ford’s next generation of electric vehicles, as well as specifying equipment, developing a materials library, analyzing and validating material samples and building a small team of material engineers and experts. You will work closely with many cross functional teams including Ford’s Design Studio, Marketing, Vehicle Engineering and Operations teams to fully realize ideas that will become new product differentiators in the next generation of electric vehicles.

    Key Qualifications:

    + Experience in design, characterization, and validation of new and novel materials in the domains of plastics, metals, ceramics/glazings and/or softgoods & textiles.

    + Familiarity in cutting edge material offerings and market trends.

    + Experience in leveraging material suppliers to meet engineering requirements for functional use.

    + A first principles mindset and the ability to blend performance and analysis to achieve end use products that delight customers.

    + Experience in requirements development and transitioning ideas from concept to reality.

    + Experience in leading engineering or technical teams in bringing new materials to mass production.

    Description and Responsibilities:

    + Stand up a team of subject matter experts in metals, coatings, polymers and softgoods that provide technical support to engineering teams in material selection.

    + Specify development lab and facilities required to evaluate new materials for production-intent future vehicle programs in our newly-constructed Long Beach facility, the Ford Electric Vehicle Development Center (EVDC).

    + Build and maintain a materials library for future applications in conjunction with design studio.

    + Drive specific material development initiatives that reduce cost, minimize footprint, improve customer experience or are a part of other strategic initiatives within Advanced EV.

    + 8+ years of hands-on, detailed product design experience.

    + Experience with analytical tools for display development with a focus on should cost modeling.

    Education and Experience:

    + Masters of Science in Material Science, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Material Development or Similar

    + Minimum of 8 years of hands-on industry experience
