Job Overview
Fairview Health Services is hiring a Surgical Technologist for the Operating Room at the Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN.
As a Surgical Technologist, you’ll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging, and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room.
**Schedule** **:** This position will be working 1.0 FTE (80 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 10 hours on the day/evening/night shifts.
About our OR at Ridges:
+ Our 150-bed community-based hospital currently has 11 OR Rooms, averaging over 7,500 cases a year.
+ Our OR specializes in areas including: Spine, Ortho, OB-GYN, General, ENT, Plastic, Urology, and Da Vinci.
+ Our call response time is 30 minutes and it is a weekend
+ Increased flexibility! Limited Call schedule (1 out of 6 weekends)
As a Surgical Technologist, you will be responsible for:
+ Supplying appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items.
+ Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
+ Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens.
+ Counting all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.
+ Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
+ Modifying clinical interventions based on population served.
+ Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
+ Anticipating the surgeon’s needs.
+ Following appropriate action in emergency situations.
Required Qualifications:
+ Complete one of the following by hire date:
+ Military Surgical Assistant; OR
+ LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR
+ Surgical Technologist training
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date)
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
+ AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire
+ 1 to 3 years surgical tech experience
Other Required Skills:
+ Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of population served.
+ Knowledge of age-appropriate outcomes and interventions.
Desired Skills:
+ Demonstrate the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.
+ Ability to work well under a team environme
