Summary

The Reporting Business Analyst at Custom Truck One Source (CTOS) serves as a critical liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, transforming raw data into actionable insights through effective use of Microsoft SQL Server and Power BI. This role requires strong analytical thinking, business acumen, and communication skills to elicit and clarify reporting needs—especially when user requests are loosely defined or evolving.

Operating within an Agile environment, the analyst will actively contribute to story development by spiking upcoming work, refining user needs, and driving continuous engagement with stakeholders. As a front-line point of contact for reporting requests, the successful candidate will help enable scalable reporting frameworks, promote self-service analytics, and support a data-driven culture across the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

+ Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather, clarify, and refine reporting and dashboard requirements.

+ Translate loosely defined business requests into detailed technical specifications and actionable solutions.

+ Act as a first point of contact for new report and dashboard requests, conducting initial scoping and requirement clarification.

+ Lead and facilitate stakeholder meetings, workshops, and user reviews to ensure continuous alignment and feedback throughout the development lifecycle.

+ Recommend improvements to reporting processes and advocate for best practices in data usage and visualization.

+ Spike future work in the Agile backlog by researching business problems, system data sources, and potential technical approaches.

+ Keep business users engaged through development sprints by soliciting input, previewing in-progress work, and managing expectations.

+ Generate acceptance criteria and perform testing for Power BI reports and dashboards tailored to business needs.

+ Perform ad hoc and structured analysis using SQL to investigate potential user questions.

+ Collaborate closely with BI developers, data engineers, and QA resources to ensure end-to-end data quality and solution accuracy.

+ Document report logic, data definitions, and business rules to support knowledge sharing and repeatability.

+ Participate in requirements workshops, user testing, and iterative review cycles to ensure solution alignment.

+ Advocate for scalable and maintainable reporting standards and best practices.

+ Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and better data utilization.

+ Document business logic, report design rationale, and functional data requirements for transparency and knowledge sharing.

+ Assist with user training and documentation to support data literacy and adoption of BI tools.

+ Support data literacy efforts by assisting users with interpreting dashboards and training on self-service tools where appropriate.

Required Skills and Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.

+ 4-8 years of experience working in a business analysis, reporting, or business intelligence capacity.

+ Proficient in writing SQL queries to extract and analyze data.

+ Hands-on experience interacting with Power BI desktop to validate reports, dashboards, and data models.

+ Demonstrated ability to engage with non-technical users to clarify needs and align expectations.

+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an emphasis on active listening and problem framing.

+ Analytical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot and validate data outputs.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

+ Experience working with Infor M3, Salesforce, E-Commerce suites and other line of business applications that support the business.

+ Familiarity with DAX and Power Query (M language) for data shaping and calculation logic.

+ Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and report lifecycle best practices.

+ Exposure to Agile delivery methodologies and tools like Azure DevOps or Jira.

+ Understanding of business functions such as operations, sales, service, or finance.

+ General understanding of technology as it relates to servers, network, cloud, data warehouse, reporting and analytical tools.

Working Conditions

+ Primarily office-based with the potential for remote work.

+ Occasional travel may be required to support cross-functional initiatives or training sessions.

Physical Requirements

+ Candidate must be able to sit at a desk using a computer for long periods of time.
