    Job Description

    Reports to the Head of School

    Position Overview:

    We seek an innovative, driven, humble, and hard-working leader to join our unique school community as Director of Academic Advancement, Student Support, and Operations. The Director will be responsible for the school’s daily operations, facilities, and climate needs and will coordinate and assist with implementing our systems of student support, particularly for students in need of attendance, academic, and conduct support.

    Academic Advancement and Student Support:

    + Ensure implementation of action-oriented, solution-focused, and data-driven,interventions for students presenting attendance, academic, and/or conduct-related concerns

    + Support and supervise Deans, School Counselors, and staff tasked with the development and implementation of interventions and systems of support for students

    + Support assigned grade level students presenting conduct and/or behavioral concerns, including meeting individually with students to develop interventions and/or behavior plans

    + Chair the school’s Student Support Team and facilitate weekly meetings with school-based support staff (nurse, school counselors, social workers, special education services coordinator, and school-based clinicians), with the goal of addressing and resolving student concerns

    + Chair and facilitate the weekly grade level team meetings with the goal of ensuring collaboration with faculty and staff in addressing attendance, performance, and conduct concerns

    + Review and analyze student attendance, academic , and conduct data on a daily/weekly/quarterly basis with the goal of identifying students in need of support and coordinating with Deans , school counselors, and faculty to develop and implement interventions

    + Coordinate our school’s academic, attendance, and citizenship recognitions, awards, and ceremonies

    + Collaborate with the district and school-based behavioral health staff to support our school’s Comprehensive Behavioral Health Model partnership

    + Coordinate after-school extra help/tutoring program, conduct detention, and attendance/tardiness detention

    + Assist in the supervision and evaluation of faculty and staff

    Operations:

    + Create a positive and collaborative learning environment and culture for students through restorative practices

    + Oversee and follow through with school-based disciplinary protocols, including bullying, harassment, suspensions, and expulsions

    + Serve as liaison between the school and district staff in regards to safety issues, emergency preparedness, and fire safety evacuation drills and practices

    + Design administrative and lunch duty schedules, including supervision of staff monitoring students during arrival, lunch, and dismissal

    + Organize orientation for incoming 7th and 9 th grade students

    + Support the scheduling and management of all school-wide assemblies

    + Serve as member of the administrative team and support all instructional, non-instructional, and operational decisions

    + Manage school facilities and address facilities issues in collaboration with the district

    + Other duties as designated by the Head of School and administrative staff

    Knowledge, Skills & Characteristics:

    + Acute attention to detail coupled with the ability to think and act strategically

    + Communication and management skills necessary to ensure a smooth school operation

    + Ability to create, monitor, and maintain systems that enhance organizational efficiency

    + Proficiency with databases, Google Suite

    + Ability to engage effectively with families from varied educational and social-economic backgrounds

    + Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with external partners

    Qualifications- Required:

    + Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related field

    + Minimum 5 years or more of general management experience in an educational setting

    + Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

    Qualifications- Preferred:

    + Hold a Master’s Degree in a related field

    + Hold a DESE teaching and/or school counselor licensure

    + Previous school experience in an urban setting

    + Familiarity with Boston Public Schools disciplinary procedures, inclusive of Aspen/SIS/Panorama

     

    Terms: Managerial Tier D. This position is subject to the City of Boston residency requirement.

     

    NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or head of school of the school. School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
