Description

This position’s main responsibility is to lead the accounting team and participate in the daily, monthly, and annual accounting and reporting for the feedyards, ethanol plant and corporate entities. The position requires technical accounting and accounting system skills.

This position works across the business interfacing with operations, accounting departments and outside auditors. The position reports to the CFO and may at times work in conjunction with other managers and executives at various locations.

Roles and Tasks

• Engage, motivate, and develop a team of accounting professionals.

• Lead month-end and year-end close processes.

• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting with corporate staff as well as outside location managers.

• Utilize and continually strive to learn technological advances in software.

• Oversee accounting processes and ensure sound accounting controls at all locations.

• Drive accurate and timely financial and operational reporting as designated by executive management.

• Preparation of monthly financial reporting packet for internal and external users.

• Review reconciliation of commodity cost versus commodity pricing at the individual feedyards.

• Implement database software to extract source data for analysis and reporting.

• Review month-end closing activities at the location level and be responsible for the closing results for cattle and commodities.

• Lead the fixed asset program for the entire company.

• Lead the annual external, bank and tax audit process.

• Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of reports accordingly.

• Communicate with co-workers, management, clients and others in a courteous and professional manner.

• Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.

• Additional Corporate Controller duties as necessary

Requirements

Education Requirements:

4-year degree in Accounting

CPA or CMA preferred

Specific Knowledge:

• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures

• Experience with creating financial statements

• Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process

• Excellent accounting software user and administration skills

• Proven working experience as a Financial Controller.

• 10+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience

IT / Technical Knowledge:

• Advanced computer skills (Microsoft 365 and agriculture-specific software)
