Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Bakersfield, California. This role is integral to maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the fiscal health of our nonprofit organization. The ideal candidate will manage essential accounting functions while ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting principles and grant requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Manage accounts receivable processes, including tracking income from grants, donations, and other sources, reconciling payments, and following up on overdue invoices.

• Handle accounts payable tasks such as processing bills, reimbursements, and vendor payments, ensuring proper coding and allocation to projects and grants.

• Reconcile bank accounts on a monthly basis, investigate discrepancies, and prepare deposits for various types of transactions.

• Oversee the integration of payroll data into accounting systems, ensuring proper allocation to grants and departments.

• Monitor and manage restricted and unrestricted funding to ensure compliance with grant agreements and funding requirements.

• Assist in preparing financial reports, including grant-specific reports and budget analyses, to support organizational decision-making.

• Maintain accurate records for monthly reconciliations and support the preparation of financial statements.

• Collaborate with auditors by preparing necessary documentation and responding to inquiries during annual audits.

• Support the Finance Director by generating reports for funders, board members, and leadership.

• Track and allocate expenses for credit card transactions, ensuring proper documentation and compliance. Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required; a Bachelor’s degree is highly preferred.

• At least 3 years of progressive accounting experience, including 1 year in a nonprofit environment.

• Proficient in QuickBooks Online and other accounting platforms such as Bill.com and Ramp.

• Strong understanding of nonprofit fund accounting and grant management principles.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to use pivot tables and complex formulas.

• Experience with government and foundation grants, including compliance and reporting, is highly desirable.

• Familiarity with nonprofit organizational structures and best practices for compliance.

• Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
