    Basic Job Functions:

    Responsibilities of the Safety Director may include but are not limited to:

    Developing and maintaining the safety management systems; Interacting with all division teammates to ensure understanding and compliance of federal, state, and local regulations; developing methods to identify and remove hazards; supervising and developing Health and Safety personnel; developing, organizing and providing safety training; compiling, reviewing and reporting injury/illness statistics; conducting safety visits, audits, and observations throughout plant site; developing, coordinating and conducting division safety activities and initiatives. This position must positively and effectively interact with the entire team to promote a culture of safety and achieve an injury free workplace. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    4-year degree in related field, or equivalent experience in an occupational safety or related role.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Bachelors degree in safety, environmental, industrial hygiene, biological science, or related field.

     

    Working experience in implementing EHS regulations, conducting incident investigations, interacting with regulatory agencies and external organizations, and managing cross functional teams.

     

    Supervisory experience with direct reports.

     

    EMT or Paramedic Certification

     

    OSHA VPP experience in an industrial setting

     

    Technical expertise in the EHS functions as well as technical writing and business communications.
