Work Location: University of Miami Hospital & Clinics - Radiology Imaging UTower
Ensures and encourages the delivery of the highest quality imaging and care. Generates and maintains a safe and productive work flow within department productivity standards Ensures that ICAEL standards and protocols are followed by all techs in the dept. Assists in maintaining the process improvement plan. Ensures a smooth working relationship with all customers.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:1. Education/Credentials/License and Certificationsa. 2. Work Experience:Must have 5 or more years of hospital-based experience. Proficient in 2D Echo, TEE, and Echo procedures in a Cath lab working environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Technical Duties: Proficient in math applications and use of spreadsheet programs; ability to operate word processing equipment; advanced written communication skills including grammar, spelling, and punctuation; thorough understanding of all department policies and procedures. Resource person for Echo PACs system. Proficient in department ECHO machines. Proficiency in TEEa probe cleaning and infection control policies.2. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact with others in a professional, courteous, tactful manner; ability to act as a consultant to management.3. Mental Abilities: Organize and prioritize; analyze situations and develop alternatives; analyze data and develop valid conclusions, develop clear, concise policies, procedures and correspondence; provide clear direction to others; manage duties in an environment of changing priorities and frequent deadlines.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Continuous walking and standing. Must be in good physical and emotional health. Must work well under pressure, demonstrate sound judgment and have the ability to adapt easily to changing demands and priorities. Must be able to stand and/or walk for an eight hour shift, escorting patients to and from rooms/hospital, push wheelchair bound patients to and from hospital; be able to sit for long hours at computer or reception desk; must have good speaking ability; also lifting, stooping, bending, reaching. Must have ability to reach overhead. Must be able to lift 25 pounds unassisted. Use proper body mechanics to stoop and bend to floor level while filing, organizing, etc. Normal vision and hearing. Possess flexibility and manual dexterity to perform fine motor tasks such as assisting with medical procedures. Handle emergencies or crises situations. Possess physical strength to perform CPR unassisted. Periods of sustained concentration are frequently required.WORKING CONDITIONS:1. Physical Environment:a. Potential exists for daily exposure to infectious blood/body fluids and tissue and minimal exposure to other biohazardous materials, such as cleaning agents.2. Occupational Safety and/or Health Risks:a. Personal protective equipment including disposable gloves, masks, face shield, one way valve masks, and ambu bags are available for each unit. Ambu bags are readily available to each nursing unit. Negative air flow rooms are designated throughout the facility. Appropriate receptacles are available for disposal of sharp objects and other biohazardous waste.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1) Greets and assists patients when they check in & out of the clinic in a professional manner.2) Obtains or reviews their demographics & fiscal information3) Prepares necessary documentation for scheduled patient appointments4) Answers patient’s telephone calls, correctly processing information or answering questions or solving problems.5) Schedules appointments including ancillary testing when necessary6) Communicates effectively and in a professional manner with patients regarding wait times7) Monitors general reception area, ensuring cleanliness and organization.8) Adheres to Joint Commission and Department of Public Health regulations as well hospital and Departmental policies, such as: Attendance, Co-Pay and Dress Code.9) Performs other duties and tasks as requested by supervisors to ensure the efficient overall performance of the facility, maintaining flexibility regarding the occasional need for the staff coverage in other areas of the facility10) Assists Manger/Director in monitoring and ensuring compliance of UM and JCAH standards11) Assists Manger and Director in monitoring and ensuring a safe work environment12) Assists Manger/Director in assuring ICANL standards are metFulfilling Responsibilities to Patients:a) Answers patient’s telephone calls, correctly processing information on ambulatory appointment scheduling or answering questions or solving problems. If necessary, transfers call to an appropriate person or department to assist the patient.b) Obtain or reviews all patient demographic information, insurance information and referral numbers.c) Calls patients from waiting area by addressing them as Mr., Ms. or Mrs. introduces him/her self and provides explanation as to the process.d) Accurately records all data and maintains necessary records or files relating to clinical care issues.e) Accurately and efficiently collects co-pay following all policies and procedures set in placef) Assists patients in a manner that promotes the perception that the staff is courteous, efficient and interested in their healthcare. Treats all patients with dignity and professionalism.g) Acquires all materials necessary for the patient visit including medical records and x-rays.h) Answers telephone calls professionally and courteously within five rings introducing the practice as requested by the division.i) Whether on the phone or in person treats all patients and internal customers with dignity and professionalism.Fulfilling Responsibilities to Physiciansa) Maintains a professional relationship with all physiciansb) Informs physicians of patient volume and wait time during sessionsc) Communicates with patients regarding delays in schedule.d) Answers telephone calls correctly processing all patient information for messages, appointments, or patient registration.e) Obtains or reviews all patient demographics, insurance and referral information as necessary.f) Responsible for cash collection following guidelines as provided by the Co-Pay Cash Collection procedure.g) Completes physician’s orders/requests accurately.h) Maintain and adjusts physicians schedules as requested.Interacting with Fellow Employeesa) Works to establish and maintain good working relationships with fellow employees.b) Treats all co-workers and internal customers with dignity and professionalism.c) Works cooperatively with fellow employees to solve problems and enhance the smooth and efficient flow of the practice.d) Provides coverage for responsibilities of co-workers when assigned or as need arises.
Interacting with Supervisory or Administrative Staffa) Follows instructions of and assists supervisory staff as required.b) Maintains good communication and reports problems to supervisor.Equipment and Suppliesa) Schedules staff to maintain all patient care and support equipment assuring that they are clean and in good working order. Reports problems to supervisor or follows protocol for reporting problems.b) Maintains inventory of necessary supplies and equipment following procedures set by practice manager.c) Ensures that all supplies are adequately stocked.d) Maintains a neat organized work environment.Performs all other duties or tasks as assigned or requested by the supervisor to ensure the efficient overall performance of the facility.
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:• Staff and requisition supplies according to budget guidelines and department needs• Assist with the processing of payroll for his/her direct reports by maintaining employee schedule and time off and late log.• Maintain accurate schedule and attendance records for echo techs• Maintain QA statistics (including patient wait times, etc.) and report results to the Director• Assist with employee evaluations providing input for Manager/Director• Continually assist in the education of all Echo staff of any changes pertinent to their roles• When appropriate, relieve staff members during employee sick/vacation time• Secure all signatures necessary for documentation of in-services.• Work closely and professionally with nursing and ancillary departments in an effort to maintain a teamwork approach• Assume scheduling on-call responsibilities to ensure adequate staffing and problem-solving• Schedule and assist with evaluation processes; helps resolve patient and employee concerns• Assist Manager to ensure all personnel and department policies and procedures are followed• Informs Manager of all issues upon his/her return• Supervise and maintain effectiveness of patient flow• Recommends sufficient number of qualified/competent staff.• Assist in Determining staff qualifications and competence. Develops and maintains accurate initial and annual competency checklists, and initiates completion of initial and annual competency attestation forms.• Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care of the services delivered.• Attends in-service presentations, and complete mandatory education week including, but not limited to, infection control, patient safety, quality improvements, MSDS and OSHA Standards.• Demonstrates knowledge of occurrence reporting system and utilizes system to report potential patient safety issues.• Practice, adhere, and monitor compliance to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”• Other duties as assigned
