JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a Supervisor to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located at Boston's Children's Hospital. You will be working with multiple animal species.
Under the direction of the Manager, Animal Care, this position provides direction and leadership for the daily operations of Boston Children's Hospital animal facilities and program. Maintains performance levels consistent with and according to Animal Resources Children's Hospital (ARCH) standards and requirements. Collaborates with the veterinary staff to ensure that the health and welfare of laboratory animals are maintained in compliance with local, state, federal and institutional guidelines and regulations. Responsible for providing back up and assistance for the Manager, Animal Care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

+ Responsible for assisting in the training of animal care staff in the following: cage changing, microisolator cage changing techniques, room sanitation, autoclave operation, cagewash operations, waste disposal and other husbandry duties as required.
+ Outlines the job responsibilities of animal care staff, including Children's Hospital policies, procedures and the daily husbandry assignments of the animal care staff.
+ Collaborates with Animal Facility Manager and maintains necessary supply and equipment inventory to operate the day-to-day operation of the animal care program, including feed/bedding, sanitation supplies, office supplies, cage equipment, autoclave supplies and other supplies and equipment as needed.
+ Responsible for developing and maintaining animal records including, room logs, health reports, cage card labels, autoclave records, cagewash records, animal census and other records as required.
+ Ensures that all animal rooms are observed on a daily basis to monitor for sick, or dead animals, and reports findings to the veterinary staff or alternatively to the Animal Facility Manager.
+ Interviews and recommends selection of candidates for employment to the Animal Facility Manager. In consultation with the Animal Facility Manager and Human Resources Manager, this position performs personnel actions including but not limited to hiring, transferring, suspending, counseling, disciplining, discharging, assigning, rewarding or addressing employee concerns.
+ Supervises direct reports in their efforts to maintain quality performance of departmental and client objectives, including meeting/exceeding departmental standards with respect to animal health and welfare, facilities condition, sanitation levels.
+ Build competence among employees through conducting appropriate training activities and through appropriate supervision related activities (e.g. recruitment, separation, performance appraisal, disciplinary actions, etc.).
+ Supports and affirms the company policy of Equal Opportunity through Affirmative Action.
+ Conducts daily inspections of animal holding and support facilities to determine the degree to which established levels of animal health, facilities condition, sanitation levels, environmental parameters and security are being met/exceeded.
+ Participates in the development and implementation of site-specific standard operating procedures (SOP's), in compliance with all state, federal and industry requirements. Oversee adherence to site SOP's and all required documentation related to department. Coordinate operations with the assistance of staff support departments and personnel.
+ Coordinates repair and general up-keep of physical environment in areas of responsibility. Is available on site for assistance, coordinating during upkeep and repairs.
+ Participates as required in the development of projections for equipment, supplies and personnel needed to effectively operate the research facilities in a manner consistent with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and all local, state and federal requirements.

+ Actively interacts with customers as required to solve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints and to provide technical assistance. Act as liaison between scientific staff and support personnel.
+ Trains and oversees consistent practice of general Children's Hospital safety policies and procedures, including those related to biohazards and radioactive substances. Supervises in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
+ In coordination with Human Resources Manager, investigates personnel problems and to employees in accordance with company policies and procedures.
+ Maintains required attendance level and adherence to work schedule in accordance with required staffing levels in order to ensure that assigned duties are completed.
+ Assists in any contract related activity, as assigned by Supervisor, to complete the required work.
+ Performs all other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify for this role, you must have one of the following combinations of education/experience:
+ High school diploma/General education development plus six plus years husbandry experience in a laboratory animal facility of which six to twelve months is leadership experience.
+ Bachelor or Associate degree plus two-four years husbandry experience in a laboratory animal facility of which six to twelve months is leadership experience.
+ Certification/Licensure: AALAS Certification at the LAT level required LATG _preferred._
_The pay range for this position is $90,000-$95,000 annually. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location._
