    Public Health Nutritionist III

     

    Department Of Public Health

    (MICAH / WIC)

    Starting Salary: $72,000

     

    This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City’s collective bargaining agreement with** **AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5.** **Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    Under general supervision, supervises a staff of Public Health Nutritionists engaged in providing nutritional care assessments and counseling services to clients at public health centers or clinics, and performs related duties as required

     

    + Supervises professional and clerical staff in all phases of service delivery.

    + Completes quality assurance audits to ensure accuracy and completeness of nutrition assessments and care plans.

    + Provides in-service training to staff in accordance with nutrition practices guidelines.

    + Participates in data collection and prepares monthly reports for program performance measures.

    + Provides nutrition services to all clients including assessments, education and nutrition counseling.

    + Participates in neighborhood outreach activities promoting healthy nutrition practices.

    + Organizes program’s day to day operations to ensure timely and efficient service.

    + Coordinates and participates in nutrition education classes and activities at site.

    + Prepares reports in compliance with funding guidelines.

    + Develops and maintains nutritional care plans for clients

    + Perform related duties as required.

    • Austin West Division Street Health Hub

     

    4909 W. Division Street, 60651

    WORK SCHEDULE:

    Monday through Friday

     

    8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. or 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

     

    Some additional hours may be required in case of public health emergency.

    THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE

    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition, or a directly related field, plus three years of work experience in public health nutrition or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience provided that the minimum education requirement is met.

     

    Licensure, Certification or Other Qualifications

     

    Registered Dietitian (RD) credential awarded by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

     

    Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN). At the time of employment, positions must be a Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) in the State of Illinois.

    SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

    This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.

    Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

    • Previous experience working in a (WIC) Women Infants and Children’s program.

    • Previous experience applying theories and principles of food and nutrition to include assessment, planning and counseling.

    • Previous experience with performance management and quality assurance

    • Previous experience managing and supervising staff.

    • Level of Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
