    A Brief Overview

     

    The Associate Legal Counsel advises and provides legal counseling and related support to departments, business, operational and administrative units of First BanCorp, FirstBank Puerto Rico, and its subsidiaries and affiliates in Puerto Rico, the United States and British Virgin Islands and Florida (the “Corporation”). Collaborates in the review, revision and drafting of contracts to be executed with third party vendors, customers and other stakeholders.

    What You’ll Need to Succeed

    • Advise and provide legal counseling and related support to the departments, business units, and administrative units of the Corporation.

    • Review, revise, and draft contracts to be executed with third party vendors of the Corporation.

    • Collaborate in the negotiation of contracts to be executed with third party vendors and provide legal advice in contractual transactions of the Corporation.

    • Analyze and apply banking, commercial transaction, and corporate legal knowledge in legal issues involving the Corporation.

    • Perform legal research of local and federal banking, commercial transaction, and general corporate laws and regulations in relation to legal counseling to the Corporation.

    • Prepare memoranda based on legal research and provide legal recommendations to internal stakeholders.

    • File trademark applications and provide effective legal advice in other intellectual property matters for the Corporation.

    • Assist in the drafting of Policies & Procedures of the Corporation.

    • Provide Notary Public Services for corporate matters in the Corporation and subsidiaries in Puerto Rico.

    Minimum Requirements You’ll Need:

    • Juris Doctor and Notary Public, admitted to practice law, licensed and in good standing with the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico.

    • Between (1) one to (3) three years of in-house and/or law firm experience in corporate and commercial matters .

    • Experience in negotiations, contract drafting and contract review.

    • Speak, comprehend and write fluently in Spanish and English are required for this job.

    • Have excellent analytic and problem-solving skills.

    • Have ownership; take the initiative and be accountable for results.

    • Experience in the banking and/or finance industry is a plus!
