    The Director of Athletic Communications is an integral part of the athletic department. This position has a high level of independence and leadership, with a broad impact that extends beyond the Middlebury Athletics community. The Director of Athletic Communications promotes the values, goals and achievements of Middlebury’s varsity athletics programs through collaborative leadership, strategic vision, and creative sensibility. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Athletics, this position oversees the full-time Athletic Communications staff.

     

    This is a full time, benefits eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $54,828 - $68,550 per year.

    Core Responsibilities:

    + Oversees all day-to-day operations of the athletic communications department.

    + Coordinates the publication of various materials that are deemed necessary to tell the authentic stories and present compelling content of Middlebury Athletics in the College’s voice and sensibility.

    + Supervises a team of full-time staff and student workers.

    + Serves as the first contact for media inquiries about student-athletes, coaches, or staff.

    + Maintains the Middlebury Athletics website and social media accounts. Maintenance and oversight of the website includes website page development, coding and statistical record keeping.

    + Serves as a partner with the office of communications and advancement alongside the Assistant Director of Athletics for the Middlebury Athletics Hall of Fame and other strategic initiatives.

    + Helps to manage departmental funds by planning and developing the budget. Oversees contracts with applicable vendors such as video streaming, photographers and videographers.

    Requirements

    + Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred. Emphasis on Communications, Sport Management, Journalism or Public Relations preferred.

    + Minimum of five years of full-time experience in athletic communications.

    + Experience in managing and leading within college athletics, either as a director of athletic communications or as an administrator.

    + Must be competent in all statistical inputting software (StatCrew, PrestoSports & NCAA Live Stats).

    + Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro and InDesign. Advanced graphic design, photo and video editing skills are preferred.

    + Superior writing skills across media and platforms with the ability to develop content for different audiences while maintaining a unified, institutional voice

    + Must know how to use a camera (photo and/or video)

    + Advanced knowledge of social media

    + Strong interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to work collaboratively across organizational lines.

    + Strong organizational, analytic and creative skills.

    + Must adhere to all Middlebury College, NESCAC and NCAA rules.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

    + Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

    + Early mornings, late nights and weekends are required and frequent.

    + Must be able to travel with teams up to five times a year.
