Function of Position:
The Assistant Director of Athletics/Head Swimming and Diving Coach will serve under the general direction and supervision of the Athletic Director and is responsible for planning, administering and coaching a comprehensive NJCAA Division III men's and women's swimming and diving program and supports all related activities noted below. The Assistant Director of Athletics will oversee scheduling of all athletic facilities and the preparation of facilities for contests and other events; create a safe environment through the development of maintenance, inspection, and replacement schedules for all large equipment. In addition, the assistant director will coordinate and assist with student-athlete development programming including serving as advisor to the student-athlete leadership committee.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Primary Functions:
Head Coach
+ Program Management
+ Conduct team tryouts, plan and schedule regular practice sessions, prepare effective team strategy for formal contests, evaluate team and individual performances, coordinate an effective in and out-of-season player conditioning program
+ Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all staff, student-athletes, and external constituents/departments through (a) a positive and constructive approach to all tasks; (b) respect for the competencies of others; (c) appropriate conflict resolution
+ Conform to the highest standards of professional conduct regarding compliance with department and institutional policies and procedures and adherence to the rules and regulations of the NJCAA
+ Management of team supplies, budget, and fundraising
+ Plan, coordinate, and monitor the team budget, closely supervise the issuance and usage of team supplies and equipment, maintain accurate equipment inventory
+ Project and submit accurate recruiting, travel, equipment, and supply needs as needed, in a timely manner
+ Develop and coordinate all aspects of fundraising to support program
+ Contribute to the Athletic Department facility revenue generation program
+ Recruiting
+ Recruit high-quality student athletes capable of performing at the NJCAA level
+ Recruit student athletes committed to academically succeeding
+ Cultivate a good rapport with College offices and assist student-athletes with processes, in collaboration with, and not limited to Admissions, Financial Aid and Advising
+ Establish and cultivate a positive relationship with alumni
+ Athletic Facility Manager
+ Work with head coaches, Student Life, Campus Events, and Physical Education to schedule all athletic facilities
+ Utilize Ad Astra online scheduling software to schedule all athletic practices and special events. Coordinate with Sports Information to schedule home athletic contests
+ Complete daily inspections of all athletic facilities to ensure a safe user environment
+ Use the online facility maintenance request system to schedule immediate repairs needed for athletic facilities
+ Implement and administer, in conjunction with the MCC Association, periodic maintenance, repair, and replacement schedules for all facilities and relevant equipment
+ Manage all operational aspects of the pool including hiring and training life guards
+ Oversee adherence to all local and state health department regulations
+ Serve as liaison to Campus Events, Public Safety, Facilities, and other College constituents and serve on appropriate facility and scheduling committees
+ Student-Athlete Development:
+ Create and advise student-athlete leadership committee
+ Assist with student-athlete orientation
+ Coordinate all community service opportunities for teams and department
+ Coordinate special programming for student-athletes including but not limited to Title IX and diversity training, scheduling of speakers
+ Oversee and assist with the development of academic success plan framework for all student-athletes in collaboration with student-athlete success coaches
+ Oversee student-athlete resource referral for tutoring, support services, and transferring
+ Oversee the Starfish early alert and flagging system for student-athletes. Disseminate to appropriate success coaches and implement follow-up process with student-athlete, coach, and faculty member
Secondary Functions:
+ Performs additional duties as assigned by the director of athletics
+ Assist with departmental special events including but not limited to: regional and national tournaments, athletic banquet, hall of fame, admissions, and orientation
+ Game Day Administrator as assigned by Director of Athletics
+ Site supervise for facility rentals
+ Maintain confidentiality, according to FERPA and other policies and protocols, as required by the College
+ Coordinate summer staffing for fitness center and pool
+ Serve on the Homecoming/5K and Golf Committee

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
+ Earned bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution
+ 3-5 years prior experience with leadership development programming
+ Must be available to work some nights, weekends, and holidays as program schedule dictates
+ Certified pool operator license or obtain certified pool operator license within 60 days of start date.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Earned bachelor's degree in sports management or related field a regionally accredited higher education institution
+ Prior experience with leadership development
+ Prior experience advising student-athletes
+ Prior coaching experience
+ Demonstrated success working with diverse constituencies to support an inclusive campus environment
+ Evidence of commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college
Additional Information:
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $65,000 to $77,900 and is based on these mentioned factors.
MCC offers a Flexible Work Policy for benefit eligible employees. Types of flexible work arrangements include flextime/staggered shifts, remote work/telecommuting and compressed work schedule.
