Our client, a leading, innovative bio-industrial company is seeking a **Laboratory Associate** to support quality, operations, and food/feed safety testing in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Located in Cook County, IL
6 month contract to be extended
**Schedule:** Rotating Shift | 3rd Shift (2x2x3) from 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM or 12:00 AM – 12:00 PM
**Pay:** $20-25/hour
Key Responsibilities:
+ Conduct routine quantitative and qualitative testing on food oils, including raw materials, in-process samples, and finished oil products.
+ Perform analyses of oil composition, purity, stability, and quality characteristics following standardized protocols under intermediate supervision.
+ Interpret, document, and communicate test results using lab databases and internal communication tools.
+ Run calibration checks and basic preventive maintenance on lab instruments such as gas chromatographs, titrators, and spectrophotometers; perform minor troubleshooting and repairs as needed.
+ Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer specification documents and SOPs specific to food oil testing.
+ Support internal audits and quality investigations by ensuring compliance with food/feed safety and regulatory standards (e.g., FSSC 22000, FDA, AOCS methods).
+ Assist in driving a strong safety, quality, and compliance culture by collaborating cross-functionally with operations, QA, and regulatory teams.
+ Provide support for more complex product trials and experiments related to oil formulations and process improvements under the guidance of senior staff.
+ Address administrative or technical support tasks independently; escalate more complex issues to lab supervisors or specialists.
+ Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-compliant laboratory environment.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or similar field preferred.
+ Prior laboratory experience (industrial, academic, or food/feed testing environment) strongly preferred.
+ Ability to follow SOPs, interpret technical documents, and maintain detailed lab records.
