UPMC Hamot's Operating Room is hiring a Patient Care Technician to join the team!
We have a 17-suite operating room that offers wide variety of specialties from Robotics, Kidney Transplants, Trauma and almost everything in between. We provide high quality care for both our elective and urgent patients from infant to geriatrics. Shifts/Hours: Full-Time, Monday-Friday 11am-7:30pm. Occasional weekend coverage required.

Responsibilities:
+ Assist with patient care, procedures, and daily living activities. Support physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
+ Report patient status changes and provide feedback to RNs. Perform core nursing assistant duties: ADLs, blood glucose, weights, vitals, I&O, specimen collection, Foley care.
+ Complete at least four advanced tasks: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley/IV removal, point-of-care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter. Report equipment malfunctions and maintain communication with departments.
+ Respond to call lights, phones, pass meal trays, and transport patients. Accept feedback, identify learning needs, and seek help with prioritization.
+ Educate patients/families under RN supervision; manage restraints per protocol. Communicate effectively with healthcare team; respect diversity and workplace safety.
+ Maintain professional relationships and demonstrate accountability and motivation. Follow all patient care and hospital policies, including safety and confidentiality.
+ Support departmental changes, quality initiatives, and problem-solving. Document care accurately and perform clerical duties as needed.
+ Maintain competency in core and advanced skills based on department needs. Limited access to medications—only distributes to nurses.
+ High school diploma or GED required.
+ Must meet one of the following experience/education criteria:
+ 1 year of general healthcare experience
+ 6 months as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days
+ Enrollment in PT/OT/PA or related healthcare program with at least one clinical rotation completed
+ Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
+ Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class. Successful completion of eRecord training.
+ EMT or Paramedic certification preferred, or current enrollment in such a program.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
+ Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal within 90 days of hire or transfer.
+ Act 33 with renewal
+ Act 34 with renewal
+ Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
+ ACLS preferred
