Farmingdale State College seeks candidates for the position of Dean of Students for the Division of Student Affairs. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the selected candidate shall have the primary role to develop and implement policies and procedures for the area of Student Affairs. The Dean of Students will be responsible for providing leadership for multiple areas directly connected to student involvement and engagement. This position will be responsible for the continued development, assessment, and improvement of a range of student activities and services consistent with the College's mission and strategic plan.
Essential Duties and Functions:
The Dean of Students will promote a vast array of educational, social, and cultural opportunities and programs. This individual will be responsible for fostering the College's commitment to student success across the entire student lifecycle by actively developing, implementing, and maintaining programs that enrich student learning, leadership, as well as build and maintain a strong sense of community, and promote growth through engagement in the life of the University.
Key responsibilities include:
+ Supervising the departments of Residence Life, Campus Conduct, Title IX inclusive of student advocacy and campus outreach and prevention.
+ Cultivate and implement short and long-term student engagement goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures which respond to the changing needs and requirements of the college's student community, and which enhance the college's viability for student recruitment and retention purposes.
+ Enrich and expand student involvement with the academic, social, and cultural life of the campus and the broader community coordinating with Residence Life and Student Activities.
+ Assess the effectiveness of existing programs and services.
+ Promote student involvement/inclusion and leadership development.
+ Advocate for, and implement efforts to, create a student friendly campus and student service excellence across functional areas.
+ Build recognition and support for outstanding extracurricular involvement.
+ Create opportunities for community service and leadership development.
+ Serve as educator, mediator, reviewer when student concerns arise as a result of policy or procedural issues.
+ Build a program of assessment around the College's student engagement efforts.
+ Possess the ability to develop, monitor and administer multiple budgets.
+ Assist with campus-wide crisis/emergency response and provide support to students and families in emergencies.
+ Maintain a highly visible profile on the campus and with various campus constituencies.
+ Foster communication both on campus and with external constituencies by engaging students, parents, faculty, and members of the public through participation in community organizations, student organizations, and other entities which address student concerns.
+ Oversee the review, investigation, and analysis of allegations of violation of the Student Code of Conduct.
+ Oversee the effective operation and delivery of student services in the areas of Residential Life, and Campus Conduct.
+ Oversee the effective recruitment, hiring, evaluation and supervision of relevant personnel.
+ The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Strong academic values and good judgment, patience, commitment, and humor to manage strategic change.
+ Understanding of system and campus governance and accreditation issues.
+ Expertise in developing/implementing processes and plans for institutional effectiveness.
+ Strong record of fostering communication with students, parents, faculty, community, and the public.
+ Ability to work collaboratively with other campus units.
+ Ability to handle information that's sensitive and confidential in nature in the utmost professional manner.
+ Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and time management skills.
+ Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse constituents.
+ Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.
+ Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability.
+ Commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion; operate with a sense of urgency, initiative, and positivity.
Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours.

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Master's degree.
+ At least five years of progressively responsible management experience within Student Affairs administration, programming and outreach.
+ Experience supervising professional staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
+ Experience with student conduct.
+ Experience developing strategic initiates that support student engagement and success.
+ Experience in crisis management, and conflict resolution.
+ Experience in cultivating collaborative relations with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, parents, family and community members.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time M/C position.

+ SALARY: $125,000/year. Salary may increase commensurate with experience.
