A Glimpse of the Job
The Compensation Specialist II will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance of the TAMU compensation program. Following prescribed compensation strategies, the Compensation Specialist II will provide recommendations on various compensation projects. Additionally, this position will review and provide recommendations on various compensation and supplemental compensation requests. Finally, this position will serve as the primary point of contact for merit processing associated with the annual budget process. Participates on strategic HR related projects as a subject matter expert for compensation and related issues.
Essential Duties:
Oversight of TAMU Compensation Programs
+ Assists Classification Specialists with career paths and determines the appropriate starting rate based off the market.
+ Serves as the main point of contact for market study requests.
+ Provides departments with cost projections relating to various compensation reviews.
+ Reviews and interprets University Rules and Standard Administrative Procedures (SAPs) regarding compensation matters.
+ Provides recommendations for revisions to SAPs, policies, and procedures regarding compensation matters.
+ Interprets and applies Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) criteria to compensation tasks and projects.
+ Responds to inquiries and issues from department HR Contacts and division/executive office contacts regarding compensation.
+ Researches and maintains the Texas A&M University compensation philosophy.
+ Participates on strategic HR related projects as a subject matter expert for compensation and related issues.
+ Monitors inquiries in the ticketing system.
+ Reviews and responds to compensation and market related inquiries.
+ May serve on committees and/or working groups. May teach compensation workshops, as assigned.
+ Ensures that market data sources, benchmark jobs and methods for determining pay ranges are documented appropriately.
+ Collects market data and participates in salary surveys.
+ Monitors and maintains records of implemented rates and the timing of market data collection, ensuring that current market data is proactively gathered and communicated as needed."
Supports Supplemental Compensation Programs (Faculty and Staff)
+ Analyzes salary data for issues and makes recommendations for corrections as necessary.
+ Reviews and provides recommendations to the Manager for approval of compensation-related requests.
+ Reviews Supplemental Compensation Request Forms and determines the appropriate payment route.
+ Assists in the review and processing of faculty allowances and one-time payments.
+ Answers complex questions or provides policy interpretation for individuals seeking information regarding supplemental compensation.
Additional HROE –Responsibilities
+ Serves as a mentor and trainer for other Classification and Compensation Team members relating to compensation matters.
+ Assists with special projects as needed.
Other Duties
+ Greets customers professionally, courteously and assists them with inquires.
+ Performs additional work duties as assigned.
+ Maintains confidentiality of all and any employee information.
+ Maintains knowledge of federal, state, and standard administrative procedures that govern compensation.
+ Actively participates in team meetings and events.
+ Works cooperatively with all HR team members, employees and managers.

Required Education and Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college. May allow for equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Three years of Human Resources experience to include some compensation-related tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Master’s degree in Human Resources Management, Human Resources Development or equivalent.
+ Two years of experience in compensation administration.
+ Higher education HR experience.
+ Human Capital Management software experience.
+ Ability to analyze and map job descriptions to appropriate job titles and classifications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Working knowledge of database, spreadsheet and word processing programs.
+ Knowledge of various compensation strategies to include benchmarking, market pricing, and compensation budget modeling.
+ Strong analytical and communication skills.
+ Ability to deal with sensitive information in a confidential manner.
+ Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
