    Hiring Range is $60,253 to $72,892 annually based on qualifications, education and experience as it elates to the position.

     

    Position Summary:Under direction of the Fleet Manager, this position is responsible for the supervision and direction of the daily activities of a fleet maintenance crew. The Fleet Supervisor oversees the garage and shop warehouse for all of the District vehicles, equipment, and inventory. Is responsible for identifying, planning, prioritizing, scheduling, coordinating, assigning and evaluating projects and personnel associated with all aspects of the fleet maintenance operation. Coordinates the acquisition and dissemination of the District’s vehicle fleet. Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.Essential Duties:• Supervises the daily work activities of full-time personnel. Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff. Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations. Works with employees to correct deficiencies. Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with organizational policy.• Determines staffing needs, oversees the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of assigned staff, and provides backup support as needed. Reviews and approves employee bi-weekly timesheets. Works directly with Payroll to resolve any pay issues.• Schedules and assists with managing work orders through the internal work order system. Communicates status of work orders and anticipated timeline for completion of work orders with other departments and individuals.• Administers and adheres to District policies. Assists in preparing, enforcing, maintaining, and modifying policies and procedures manuals that comply with local, state and national regulations. Conducts periodic staff meetings to provide and gather information; answers questions and responds to complaints and concerns, both internally and externally. • Establishes schedules and methods for providing vehicle and equipment maintenance services; identifies resource needs; reviews needs with appropriate management staff; allocates resources accordingly. • Coordinates fleet maintenance and repair activities with other departments and outside agencies, as appropriate. Schedules work to be performed by vendor/manufacturer including recall notices, warranty and repairs.• Provides research as needed to assist mechanics with troubleshooting certain repairs. • Oversees and maintains shop inventory and place special orders when needed. Initiate purchases of tools, material, supplies and parts as necessary within the District purchasing guidelines. • Keeps warehouse inventory, parts, lubricants, tools, supplies, and related equipment in a clean and orderly condition at all times.• Creates and maintains detailed records for all shop maintenance operations. Pays bills and monitors service contracts.• Maintains current parts and service catalogs and SDS information as necessary.• Licenses and registers all District vehicles and pertinent equipment for legal road use. • Ensures compliance with US DOT regulations for large trucks and CDL requirements for testing and licensing. • Assists with training District employees on new vehicles and equipment before being placed into operation.• Oversees the disposition of district vehicles and equipment through routine auctions. Solicits and collects bids for new equipment and vehicles; coordinates the sale of equipment and vehicles no longer used by the District.• Recommends equipment replacement based upon life-cycle analysis criteria including age, condition, value, cost and maintenance history.• Oversees and manages the fuel card program.• Supervises and monitors the aboveground storage tanks and hazardous materials program for the District in regard to compliance with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.• Orders and maintains the District’s fuels, oils and lubricants as necessary. Must also maintain various State Department of Oil’s inventory and inspection records. • Ensures spill prevention and protection program for all fuels and oils are within compliance of state regulations.• Answers questions and provides information to staff regarding vehicle and equipment maintenance activities; investigates complaints and recommends corrective action as necessary.• Exercises good judgment and proper safety precautions and practices at all times.• Conducts or coordinates and documents training of personnel in techniques for safe and efficient fleet maintenance operations, equipment, tools, machinery, and work methods. • Assists the Fleet Manager with developing division goals and objectives.• Assists with preparing and monitoring the budget, managing revenues and expenditures, and preparing financial reports. Prepares bid document specifications for new vehicles and equipment. Prepares purchase orders, RFPs, and invoice requests; purchases, maintains and inventories materials and supplies. Works with vendors to ensure proper delivery and quality of materials and services. Prepares short and long-range revenue/expenditure projections, checks revenue streams, etc. Develops and implements strategies to increase usage of assigned areas. • Develops and maintains professional relationships with District employees, and vendors. • Responds tactfully, respectfully and in a timely manner to inquiries, complaints, and problems in person, through email, phone and mail by providing helpful information and explanations in-line with District policies and procedures. Thoughtfully handles confrontational or stressful interactions.• Maintains and cares for assigned tools and equipment. Maintains and routinely inventories parts and materials used while performing maintenance duties. Schedules crews to maintain, repair and restore machinery, equipment and facilities.• Keeps accurate records including personal timecard, daily activity reports, and incident/accident reports according to District procedures in a timely manner. • Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations. • May be required to assume Fleet Manager’s duties and responsibilities or to assist with additional supervisory duties in Fleet Manager’s absence.• Attends work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis.• May be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays; and may be required to work shifts deviating from this position’s normal work days.

    Education and/or Experience:• Must be eighteen (18) years of age.• Associate degree in automotive technology.• Four (4) years’ progressive skilled experience working in a fleet shop and warehouse environment which includes one (1) year of supervisory experience. • Any combination of experience, training and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.

     

    Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:• Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.• Colorado Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class B with air brake and passenger P-1 endorsements preferred.

     

    Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:• Knowledge of the principles, equipment, materials, supplies, and techniques used in the oversight of a fleet maintenance operation. • Skilled in the use of maintenance equipment, and the ability to operate or receive training on various types of maintenance equipment. • Skills and ability to document daily activities, keep accurate work logs and reports, conduct jobsite hazard analysis, and correct jobsite hazards.• Ability to effectively manage and prioritize work orders and goals to maximize available resources.• Problem solving skills to analyze problems and implement appropriate corrective actions.• Knowledge of automotive, equipment, and small engine repairs.• Knowledge of parts identification, ordering, stocking and maintaining an inventory.• Knowledge of state regulations regarding fuel, oil and lubricants.• Ability to conduct detailed research for troubleshooting automotive and mechanical repairs. • Knowledge of US DOT regulations for large trucks and CDL requirements for testing and licensing. • Ability to write and administer detailed bid documents for procurement of district vehicles, equipment, goods and services. • Ability to read and understand vehicle and equipment manuals and instructional materials.• Ability to develop and manage budgets.• Ability to write detailed reports and keep accurate service records of all rolling stock.• Ability to utilize GPS information for proper vehicle operation and routine maintenance. • Ability to learn new software programs for the management of fuel systems, maintenance records, filing system, etc. • Knowledge of budget planning and management.• Skills in recruiting, training, supervising, evaluating, and motivating employees, community service workers, and volunteers.• Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness. • Skill and ability to use and enforce all applicable work safety rules, procedures and equipment.• Ability to work productively without supervision within established policies and procedures.• Ability to read and understand manuals and instructional materials. • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Internet Explorer.• Ability to interpret and evaluate the work of staff effectively. • Must be highly motivated and take direction well.• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide outstanding customer service, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and interact with others in a professional manner. • Excellent communication skills to understand oral and written instructions; to express facts, data, and ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; and to develop, facilitate and lead presentations. • Ability to research, gather, organize and analyze information.

     

    Material and Equipment Used:• Regularly uses maintenance equipment which may include but is not limited to: various hand tools, power tools, forklift, tractors, specialty and safety equipment, and vehicle diagnostic computers. • Regularly uses standard office equipment including a personal computer, phone, calculator, printer, and photo copier. • This position regularly drives a District and/or personal motor vehicle to various District facilities.

     

    Working Environment:• Regularly requires work in a variety of settings including working indoors and outdoors, daytime and night-time including in dark areas, subject to variable weather conditions, ecosystems, and landscapes. Outdoor working environments can be wet, humid, and extreme in temperature variations. • This position has regular exposure to adverse conditions such as dust, loud noises, wildlife, and chemicals. • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts; precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. • This position also performs work in an office environment subject to interruptions and background noises.

     

    Physical Requirements:• Extended periods spent standing, walking, sitting.• Regular physical work lifting up to 75 pounds.• Required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; grasp, make repetitive hand movements, and reach with hands and arms. • Occasionally required to climb, squat, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch or crawl.• Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate tools, machinery, personal computer and equipment.• Foot/eye coordination required for operating motorized equipment.• Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information. Vision acuity to see close-up and at a distance with the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision.• Speech communication and hearing to maintain clear and effective communication. Must understand and be understood.
