Position Summary:
The Director of Learning Services leads and manages learning services across the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine’s ( HCOM ) three campuses, coordinating efforts with other units to enhance the academic and professional success of medical students. This position oversees the development and systematic implementation of support and intervention strategies designed to improve student performance and retention. The Director directly supervises two learning specialists at the Athens campus and indirectly supervises two specialist at the Dublin and Cleveland campuses, supporting students in Years 1-4 of the medical school program by fostering the development of individual learning and preparatory skills that enhance academic performance. This position collaborates effectively with colleagues within the Office of Student Affairs and throughout Heritage College, while also serving as an external representative of HCOM .
Position Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management of Learning Services
+ Lead the ongoing development and implementation of a state-of-the-art learning services program supporting students in Years 1-4 within the Heritage College, improving student academic performance and retention, both of which are critical to the achievement of the College’s mission. Maintain a high level of knowledge of current research and best practices related to the most effective methods for supporting student academic and professional success in a medical school environment. Guide the delivery and continuous improvement of programs and initiatives that contribute to student success in course work and COMLEX examinations. Ensure the collection, analysis, and reporting of data on program effectiveness, and contribute data as needed to other assessment efforts.
+ Directly supervise two learning specialist at the Athens campus and indirectly supervise two learning specialists at the Dublin and Cleveland campuses to engage students in Years 1-4 of the medical school program in developing individual learning and preparatory skills that enhance overall academic performance. Collaborate with the Senior Directors of Administration in Dublin and Cleveland to ensure the most effective balance between site-specific and overall program needs. Ensure the effective identification, recruitment, hiring, and supervision of student employees who serve as medical student tutors and facilitators of learning community activities.
+ Represent Learning Services and contribute to the development and implementation of college-wide strategies and interventions to improve student success rates. Represent Learning Services in partnerships with other units. Serve on the Student Success Committee and other committees as required. Collaborate with faculty and course leads to support student academic achievement.
+ Direct related communication and outreach efforts and oversee Learning Services’ participation in New Student Orientation, Office of Admissions student recruitment activities, prematriculation programs, outreach programs, and other activities and programs of the Office of Student Affairs and Heritage College as needed. Manage budgets and other administrative matters as needed.
+ Serve on the leadership team of the Office of Student Affairs. Represent Learning Services and/or Student Affairs in collaborative projects and initiatives. Provide counsel to Heritage College and the Office of Student Affairs leadership as appropriate. Serve on college and university committees as assigned. Other duties as assigned.
Provide Learning Services to Medical Students
+ Provide holistic advising to students in Years 1-4 to identify barriers to academic outcomes. Direct students to other appropriate resources as needed to support improved academic performance. Collect data and report on individual student progress.
+ Conduct one-on-one advising appointments focused on medical knowledge, course management, study skill effectiveness, and learning styles. Generate detailed progress documentation to track student performance, coaching, and advising. Prepare, empower, and counsel students for high-stakes course examinations, board and licensing examinations, and final assessments within the curriculum.
+ Research and maintain a high level of knowledge on state-of-the-art study aids, learning approaches, and applications to support learning community activities. Implement strategies to incorporate learning applications and resources into student advising sessions and individualized academic study plans.
+ Present group workshops that increase students’ awareness and understanding of learning approaches, study strategies, test-taking skills, and assessment preparation. Disseminate information and departmental communications regarding course resources, academic aids, and strategies for aligning learning objectives with methods that enhance overall medical knowledge.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Master’s degree.
+ 6 years of related professional experience, including two years working directly with adults on cognitive skill development.
+ 2 years of direct supervisory experience overseeing professional staff in a higher education setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master’s degree in Education, Communication, English, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
+ Doctoral degree.

Advertised Salary:
The approved hiring range for this position is $68,299 to $92,205. Offers outside of this range of subject to additional approvals. The final offer will be commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience in relation to the minimum qualifications for the position.
