Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS), located in Malden, MA, is a K–12 public charter school serving over 1,600 students since its founding in 1998. Position Overview: Physical Education Teacher & Head Track & Field Coach

Mystic Valley seeks a dynamic and dedicated Physical Education Teacher who will also serve as the Head Coach of the Track & Field Program. This dual role presents a unique opportunity to promote lifelong health and fitness while guiding student-athletes toward personal and athletic excellence.

The ideal candidate is a passionate educator and leader who thrives in both the classroom and athletic settings, and who is committed to fostering a culture of discipline, wellness, and achievement.

Key Responsibilities

As Physical Education Teacher:

+ Create and maintain a structured, engaging learning environment that aligns with school-wide expectations

+ Deliver the school’s physical education curriculum, including Direct Instruction and Core Knowledge, with fidelity

+ Monitor and assess student progress; provide timely and accurate reports

+ Participate in all required professional development sessions and training

+ Collaborate with colleagues through team meetings and instructional planning

+ Engage in weekly peer observation and practice (if applicable)

+ Prepare and issue four progress reports and four report cards per academic year

+ Maintain open, proactive communication with families; escalate academic or behavioral concerns appropriately

+ Contribute to school culture by assisting with arrival, lunch/recess, dismissal, and other assigned duties

As Head Track & Field Coach:

+ Lead and oversee the middle and/or upper school Track & Field program

+ Design and implement training plans that support athlete development and performance

+ Provide mentorship, motivation, and character-based coaching to student-athletes

+ Ensure a safe, inclusive, and structured environment during practices and competitions

+ Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and growth in all team activities

Qualifications & Requirements

+ Experience teaching physical education or leading athletic programs for youth

+ Prior coaching experience in Track & Field at the middle or high school level strongly preferred

+ Excellent organizational, communication, and classroom management skills

+ A genuine passion for student health, wellness, and athletic development

+ Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, or a related field (preferred)

+ Successful completion of all required MTEL exams within one year of hire
