    Property Accountant

    About Our Client:

    Our client is one of the 100 largest property management companies in the United States, managing a diverse portfolio of multifamily properties across the country. This hybrid role (2 days per week in-office) is ideal for a motivated accounting professional looking to deepen their experience in real estate financial operations.

    Position Summary:

    The Property Accountant will be responsible for preparing timely and accurate monthly financial statements for a portfolio of approximately 15 properties. This includes handling journal entries, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis, and year-end reporting. The role will collaborate closely with internal departments, external partners, and senior management on a variety of accounting tasks and strategic initiatives, including real estate transactions and development activity.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Prepare monthly financial statements for a portfolio of multifamily properties

    + Record and post monthly journal entries, including necessary accruals

    + Reconcile bank accounts and all balance sheet accounts with supporting schedules and documentation

    + Analyze and investigate budget-to-actual variances; provide clear, actionable explanations

    + Communicate with mortgage lenders regarding payment schedules, escrows, and reserve requirements

    + Calculate and process cash distributions to property investors

    + Compile detailed year-end work paper packages for external CPAs handling audits and tax filings

    + Serve as a key point of contact for clients, responding to questions and resolving accounting issues

    + Participate in ad hoc projects requested by clients or assigned by the Accounting Manager

    + Assist senior leadership in accounting for complex real estate transactions such as acquisitions, recapitalizations, dispositions, and construction activity

    Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required

    + Minimum of two (2) years of general ledger experience; public accounting background is a plus

    + Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

    + Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-service mindset

    + Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities

    + Team-oriented with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

    + High level of initiative with a desire for career advancement
