Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic Accounting Clerk to join our finance team in San Mateo, CA. This entry-level to mid-level role is ideal for someone looking to build a career in accounting and gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment. The Accounting Clerk will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting various accounting functions, and ensuring the smooth operation of our finance department.
Responsibilities:
+ Perform daily data entry of financial transactions into the accounting system (e.g., invoices, receipts, payments).
+ Assist with accounts payable tasks, including verifying invoices, obtaining approvals, and preparing payments.
+ Support accounts receivable functions, such as preparing and sending invoices, processing customer payments, and assisting with collections.
+ Conduct bank and credit card reconciliations to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
+ Maintain organized and accurate financial files, both physical and electronic.
+ Assist with the preparation of journal entries and general ledger postings.
+ Support month-end and year-end closing processes by gathering documentation and performing preliminary checks.
+ Process and track employee expense reports.
+ Assist with administrative duties for the finance department, including filing, scanning, and managing correspondence.
+ Communicate effectively with vendors, clients, and internal departments to resolve discrepancies and answer inquiries.
+ Learn and adhere to company accounting policies and procedures.
Requirements
Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is a plus.
+ 0-2 years of experience in an accounting or administrative support role (internship experience is welcome).
+ Basic understanding of accounting principles and bookkeeping concepts.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., creating spreadsheets, basic formulas).
+ Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, etc.) is highly preferred, but not required – we are willing to train the right candidate.
+ Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
+ Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member.
+ Proactive, eager to learn, and able to adapt to new processes.
