As a Light Equipment Operator-Sanitation, based in The Villages, FL you’ll join a collaborative team ensuring that our clients can deliver their services - uninterrupted.
Essential duties and Responsibilities
As a member of a collection crew, is responsible for operating a garbage truck on a designated route to collect solid waste and transport it to disposal sites. Performs preventive maintenance checks and services on vehicles and equipment daily.
Key Duties:
* Operating the truck: Drivers operate garbage trucks on pre-assigned routes.
* Collecting waste: Load, transport, and dump waste at disposal sites.
* Route Management: Adhere to established routes and schedules, using route maps to locate destinations.
* Pre-trip / Post-trip inspections: Drivers perform daily inspections of their vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition, ensure truck is properly fueled, serviced and cleaned.
* Safety: Follow safety protocols for waste handling disposal and vehicle operation, including traffic laws and regulations.
* Maintenance: Drivers may also perform light preventative maintenance on the trucks and fuel the trucks.
* Public interaction: Provide courteous and professional interaction with residents and others during collection.
* Emergency duties: They may be called out for emergency situations.
* Possess valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) & current DOT medical card.
* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed. Ability to manage a 2-3 person team.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have:
* Two years of commercial driving experience within the past 5 years is preferred. Waste industry experience a plus but not required.

Sanitation Truck drivers work primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and humidity, while also being exposed to traffic and moving machinery. They also face the potential for exposure to hazardous materials, dust, fumes, and loud noise. Additionally, they may be exposed to unpleasant odors and pests. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory to prevent hazardous contact. Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment, have vision sufficient to maintain equipment, have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. Must be able to transport self, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height including items that are bulky or awkward, climb into and out of vehicles having high ground clearance, wear and use appropriate safety equipment.
