    Job Title: Phlebotomist

    Job Description

    The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and recommending workflow improvements.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens.

    + Record maintenance data and ensure proper decontamination procedures are followed.

    + Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to established procedures.

    + Explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously.

    + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

    + Understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

    + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

    + Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.

    + Package specimens for transport.

    Essential Skills

    + Proficiency in specimen collection, phlebotomy, and blood draw techniques.

    + Ability to perform phlebotomy on all types of patients, including hard sticks and needle techniques.

    + Experience in urine and thyroid testing.

    + Strong data entry skills and attention to detail.

    + Good computer skills.

    + Experience in hospital, ER, or urgent care settings.

    + Venipuncture experience.

    + Customer service skills.

    + Phlebotomy certification.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + High School Diploma or GED required.

    + 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience.

    Work Environment

    The phlebotomist will work in a doctor's office, which is a medium-sized patient service center. The role requires standing for the majority of the shift and involves working both independently and with other employees. Training is provided at the start of the role. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, with an expectation of performing between 15-20 draws daily.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.
