    Phlebotomist

    Job Description

    We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontaminating equipment, and updating patient information. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections in a clear and courteous manner.

    Responsibilities

    + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

    + Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously.

    + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

    + Fully understand all physicians' orders.

    + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

    + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

    + Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.

    + Package specimens for transport.

    + Store specimen samples according to required temperatures and place them in appropriate collection containers/tubes.

    + Accurately label specimens and follow specific procedures for transport to maintain integrity.

    + Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

    + Attend annual department trainings.

    + Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

    Essential Skills

    + Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.

    + Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

    + High School Diploma or GED.

    + 2-4 years of experience in a related field.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience in pediatric and geriatric phlebotomy.

    Work Environment

    This position requires floating around the Johnson County and KCK area, with mileage reimbursement provided. The standard work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8am - 4:30pm. The role involves working in a doctor's office environment and requires standing for most of the shift. The Phlebotomist will be part of a team and will primarily be drawing blood for the majority of their shift, handling 20-40 draws daily. The first week will include orientation and training.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
