    Summary You will serve as a Legal Assistant (Court) (OA) in the REGION LEGAL SERVICE OFC MID-ATLANTIC of Naval Legal Services Command (NLSC) . Responsibilities You will prepare court reporting equipment (e.g., open-microphone systems and computers) for the use of recording oral testimony during court proceedings or hearings. You will assist trial judiciary with marking and taking custody of documentary and real evidence presented during trial or hearing. You will confirm required supplies and equipment are present in the courtroom or hearing room. You will, when required, arrange for delivery of certified mailing of the original record of trial or proceeding to convening or appointing authority. You will arrange for photographic reproduction of evidence not conducive to machine reproduction for insertion in the record of trial. You will compile records of trial according to law, regulations, and policies. You will verify and certify the completeness and accuracy of records of trial according to law, regulations, and policies and forward to the appropriate judicial official for verification. You will enter new files and records into an electronic database for tracking and record keeping purposes. You will maintain case files and records for case tracking systems and to provide status updates. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing at least two of the following duties: 1) Attending and serving as court reporter in court-martial proceedings to accomplish essential tasks herein. 2) Generating duplicate audio recordings of trial and court hearings to facilitate transcription and to verify the record or testimony is discernible. 3) Obtaining or creating, including by transcription from recording devices or handwritten reports, a verbatim or summary report of courts-martial proceedings as required according to law, regulations, and policies. 4) Maintaining post-trial court files in orderly fashion for future reference. 5) Proofreading, editing, and verifying accuracy of records of proceedings to confirm they are correct and follow standards, regulations, and law. 6) Use a computer and various types of administrative software packages (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Lexis, Westlaw, Cyber Feds, etc.) to complete tasks and correspondence.
