Job Title: Underwriter (GPO/WCC/HQ)Job Description

Evaluate and underwrite all mortgage loan types according to specific state and federal requirements to limit risk exposure to the mortgage portfolio.

Responsibilities

+ Manage a pipeline of appraisals, monitoring pending due dates and ensuring timely updates and assignments to meet member service expectations.

+ Communicate with production staff, appraisers, and appraisal vendors regarding changes, revisions, or corrections after initial delivery of the appraisal and ensure timely follow-up.

+ Respond to inquiries from production staff and other business units about appraisals in review and advanced underwriting issues, addressing and documenting issues in systems.

+ Review and make decisions on appraisal reports, determine and add conditions to loan files, and issue counter offers and denials.

+ Review and consider the effects of contracts related to properties, such as age restrictions, HOAs, and private water/septic/roads.

+ Conduct a thorough examination of all components of the appraisal report, ensuring deficiencies, repairs, or special requirements are noted.

+ Determine the acceptability and marketability of properties to ensure collateral sufficiency for securing loans.

+ Utilize information from resources such as the International Building Code, local building and zoning contacts, tax records, online real estate databases, member documentation, and title work to ensure exceptional member experience without compromising risk.

+ Make decisions regarding the acceptability of investment risk using established guidelines, recommending denial or exception for properties that do not meet them.

+ Communicate professionally and confidently with appraisers, appraisal vendors, and business partners.

+ Provide timely, accurate, and clear information based on research conducted and/or existing knowledge.

Essential Skills

+ Proficiency in underwriting and compliance with mortgage and appraisal knowledge.

+ Ability to manage a pipeline of appraisals effectively.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience in communicating with production staff, appraisers, and appraisal vendors.

+ Capability to utilize resources such as International Building Code and online real estate databases.

Work Environment

This position offers a hybrid work environment with on-campus presence required two times per week. Work hours are from 8 AM to 4:30 PM CST.

This is a Contract position based out of Vienna, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.24 - $39.93/hr.
