Summary You will serve as a PIPEFITTER in the PIPE SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will identify materials in accordance with instructions, layout, and installation of piping, fitting, valve orientation, and equipment. You will perform the layout of critical and extensive systems, preparation of sketch cards, and templates, for fabrication of piping system. You will test systems and equipment for circulation, flow, pressure, and leak free joints. You will plan and layout the installation, modification, and repair of various piping systems and equipment. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: *Locates and repairs leaks in shipboard piping systems and tests and flushes ships systems *Performs cutting and grinding operations onboard ship and in shop using various pneumatic or electric power tools and machines *Works from blueprints and sketches, processes instructions and other technical directions to properly install various piping systems and ship alterations. *Maintains cleanliness requirements for various shipboard systems and ensures such requirements are met throughout the fabrication and installation process. *Tests various ship piping systems and shop piping fabrications under pressure, to determine conformance to standards or to locate leaks.
