    Job Summary

    Position involves providing expert accounting services to support development and execution of regulatory strategy across the AEP system. Includes participating in regulatory accounting efforts to support operating company regulatory activities. Position requires interaction and communication with various parties to regulatory proceedings as well as preparation and/or review of data, schedules, reports and testimony to support regulatory activities . At conclusion of regulatory proceedings, position requires preparation of accounting instructions to other accounting departments. On an ongoing basis, position involves keeping accounting management informed regarding regulatory activities and researching related regulatory accounting, including accounting for similar transactions being pursued by other companies or past AEP transactions. On a periodic basis, position may include participating in special regulatory-related projects including multi-company topics and transactions.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO

     

    Work Designation – onsite** /in the office daily when not traveling for work **.

     

    **Locations --** can be based from:

     

    - Columbus, OH (AEP Corporate Headquarters)

     

    - Tulsa, OK

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Provide Expert Accounting Services to Support Execution of Regulatory Strategy & Inform Accounting Management About Regulatory Activities

    Associated Tasks:

    + Monitor proceedings at regulatory commissions and relevant legislative developments in order to identify and understand potential regulatory accounting implications

    + Inform management of potential accounting implications related to regulatory activities

    + Support operating company recovery strategy and decision-making through accounting analysis and research

    + Participate in regulatory accounting aspects of regulatory filings before various commissions

    + Query accounting general ledger and subledger systems. Accurately organize and/or summarize resulting accounting data for regulatory reporting.

    + Assist in preparation of accounting testimony, accounting exhibits and schedules included in the filing requirements as defined by regulatory commissions

    + Prepare responses to interrogatories during discovery and rebuttal phases of proceedings

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Provide Accounting Instructions Related to Regulatory Proceedings & Support External Financial Statement Disclosure

    Associated Tasks:

    + Monitor commission decisions and newly enacted laws or rules affecting ratemaking for accounting implications and disclosure requirements

    + Research and analyze commission decisions and/or newly enacted laws or rules affecting ratemaking

    + Research and analyze Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) 980, Regulated Operations

    + Research and analyze Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) accounting rules, including the FERC Uniform System of Accounts

    + Prepare and/or review accounting memos, which document accounting conclusions, instructions, and disclosure considerations resulting from regulatory directives

    + Develop, create, modify, and manage regulatory accounting models for specific regulatory mechanisms

    + Prepare regulatory disclosures for SEC Form 10K/10Q, GAAP and FERC Reporting

    + Provide regulatory accounting support for the annual external financial statement audit

    WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

    **Education** : **Bachelor's Degree** in Accounting or Related Business Field

    **Experience** : Minimum 5 years of general accounting experience or 3 years directly related to regulatory accounting or other regulatory activities

    **Licenses/Certifications** : CPA preferred

    ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS:

    - Some travel required

     

    - Overtime expected at times during the processing of cases

     

    - Strong written and oral communication skills

     

    - Experience in leveraging technology to support completion of deliverables.

     

    WHAT YOU’LL GET

     

    Base Salary: $97,000 - $124,000

    Compensation Range:

    $96,110.00-124,940.00 USD
