    Academic Interventionist - Freshman Academy Reports To:Freshman Academy PrincipalJob Summary:The Academic Interventionist for the Freshman Academy is a vital member of the 9th-grade team, dedicated to fostering student success and academic growth. This role's primary function is to provide targeted academic support and interventions to targeted students within the Freshman Academy, ensuring a smooth transition to high school and building foundational skills necessary for future academic achievement. The Interventionist will collaborate closely with content-area teachers to design, implement, and monitor effective academic interventions, ultimately contributing to a positive and high-achieving learning environment for all 9th-grade students.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    + Collaborate Across Content Areas: Work directly and consistently with 9th-grade teachers in all core subjects (English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies) to identify students in need of academic intervention, analyze common areas of struggle, and align intervention strategies with curriculum goals.

    + Design and Develop Interventions: Co-create and develop differentiated academic interventions tailored to specific student needs and learning styles. This may include small group instruction, individualized tutoring, specialized workshops, and resource development.

    + Deliver Targeted Support: Provide direct academic support to 9th-grade students, both individually and in small groups, focusing on key academic skills, content mastery, and effective study strategies. This may occur during dedicated intervention periods, within classroom settings, or during before/after-school programs.

    + Monitor and Track Progress: Implement robust systems for tracking student progress on interventions. Regularly collect and analyze data (e.g., formative assessments, grades, benchmark assessments, observation data) to assess the effectiveness of interventions and make data-driven adjustments.

    + Communicate Progress: Regularly communicate student academic progress, challenges, and successes to students, teachers, parents/guardians, and the Freshman Academy Lead.

    + Resource Development: Develop and curate a variety of academic resources, tools, and strategies to support student learning and independent study.

    + Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in academic intervention, adolescent development, and relevant content areas through ongoing professional development.

    + Participate in Team Meetings: Actively participate in Freshman Academy team meetings, PLC (Professional Learning Community) meetings, and student support meetings to discuss student progress, intervention strategies, and overall academy initiatives.

    + Foster a Positive Learning Environment: Contribute to a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment within the Freshman Academy.

    + Other Duties as Assigned: Perform other duties related to student academic support and Freshman Academy initiatives as assigned by the Freshman Academy Lead or Principal.

    Qualifications:

    + Education: Bachelor's degree in Education, a specific content area (e.g., English, Math), or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

    + Certification/Licensure: Valid state teaching license/certification, preferably in a core academic subject or as a reading/math specialist (where applicable).

    Experience:

    + Minimum of [e.g., 2-3] years of successful teaching experience at the middle or high school level, with a strong understanding of adolescent development and learning challenges. Experience in academic intervention, tutoring, or special education preferred.

    Skills:

    + Strong understanding of various learning styles and differentiated instructional strategies.

    + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, teachers, parents, and administrators.

    + Proficiency in data analysis and using data to inform instructional decisions.

    + Ability to create engaging and effective learning experiences.

    + Strong organizational and time management skills.

    + Proficiency with educational technology and relevant software.

    + Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to student support.

    Working Conditions:

    + Primarily school-based environment.

    + May require occasional extended hours for meetings, professional development, or student support events.

    + Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented setting

    Physical Requirements:

    + Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move around classrooms and school facilities.

    + Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and via digital platforms.
