    Responsibilities:

    GENERAL PURPOSE:

    The Sr. Psychiatric Tech position at Brighter Days Pediatric Urgent Care provides the unique opportunity to work with patients and their caregivers in a walk-in mental health clinic with no prior appointment needed to receive care. The Sr. Psych Tech will work in collaboration with nursing and non-nursing staff to assist with offering interventions to help young people and their families who are experiencing acute distress. The Sr. Psych Tech performs clinical tasks as assigned by nursing in support of patient care including, but not limited to; obtaining vital signs, rooming patients for clinic visits, collection of patient/family forms, documentation in eRecord, escorting patients and families as needed, and milieu management. The candidate must be able to demonstrate flexibility due to the changing needs of the assignment and models IICARE Values for other unit staff and patients.

     

    Shift: 12:30p-8:30p Sun-Sat, no holidays

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Escorts patients from the waiting area to nursing triage room and/or other designated offices when indicated.

    + Ensures patient wait time is minimized.

    + Will have the ability to safely transport patients to and from the urgent care to Peds ED/CPEP and Inpatient Child/Adol unit.

    + Completes pre-visit appointment information which may include but is not limited to obtaining vital signs, med reconciliation, completion of patient screens in eRecord, and obtaining completed documentation.

    + Enters patient data into electronic medical record system.

    + Subscribes to the Departmental goal of creating a culturally competent environment by treating patient, families, trainees, and co-workers in a sensitive manner with appropriate attention to cultural differences.

    + Milieu Management/Clinic Environment: Contributes to milieu safety by communicating with team members when high risk patients are identified and completing hallway and waiting room observation throughout shift.

    + Assures that supplies and equipment are readily available to ensure smooth operations and patient safety.

    + Maintains adequacy of clinical equipment and medical supply levels which may require cleaning, monitoring of expiration dates, and requests new supplies when indicated.

    + Demonstrates problem solving and critical thinking skills in developing behavioral interventions.

    + Collaboration with Interdisciplinary Team: Touches base daily with nursing team (tech/RN/ANM) to discuss the daily schedule and where support may be needed.

    + Anticipates needs and adapts plan to the complexity of the patient.

    + Accepts and acts on constructive feedback from leadership, peers, and colleagues in a positive manner. Attends meetings as assigned.

    + Supports the clinic staff and/or DPS during patient crises including calling for additional supports, managing milieu safety (escorting patients away from the crisis, rounding in the waiting room to offer support to patients/families, directing EMS), and tasks as delegated (retrieving emergency equipment, vital signs machine). Utilizes de-escalation techniques and distraction (games, crafts, sensory room) as appropriate.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    + Associates degree and one years’ experience in a human services field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + One year of experience in a patient care setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    + Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures and computer experience.
