This position is for full-time Instruction in the Life Sciences Department.
Palmer College of Chiropractic Life Sciences Department is looking for an anatomy lead instructor to teach in the first year of the chiropractic program. Available courses include, but are not limited to, lecture and lab instruction for Gross Anatomy I (extremities). Other opportunities include participating in our human dissection program and other basic science courses. We are looking for candidates with an interest in evidence-based teaching, learning, and scholarship to join our team of faculty.
The term “Faculty” is limited to regular personnel at Palmer whose regular assignment includes instruction, research and/or public service as a principal activity and who hold academic rank as Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant professor or Instructor. Faculty play an important role in curriculum and policy development; faculty are planners who must constantly look to the long-term future of education and discovery. The faculty is expected to work closely with students, other faculty and administration of the College in promoting interests of the Palmer University System and it’s strategic plan.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Faculty duties fall under several areas: teaching, scholarly work, service/citizenship and advising/mentorship. Some faculty may also have patient care responsibilities as part of their assignment. Specifically, the following activities are expected of all faculty:
+ Preparation and presentation of individual lectures.
+ Course syllabus management, contents review.
+ Development and administration of formative and summative assessments.
+ Contribute to the development, administration and grading of course evaluations.
+ Maintain appropriate office hours as required.
+ Coordinate all learning activities.
+ Proctoring exams and other responsibilities related to teaching and advising.
+ Serve on appointed committees, task forces and other teams.
+ Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Ability to perform assigned teaching duties effectively.
+ Ability to utilize general office equipment and other necessary equipment in teaching.
+ Ability to effectively advise and mentor students.
+ Ability to work effectively with others.
+ Ability to work independently and autonomously.
+ Ability to communicate effectively.
+ Ability to work various hours as job requires.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Qualified applicants must have a first professional degree in a chiropractic or other healthcare discipline or a graduate degree in an appropriate discipline or subfield of Life Sciences (Human Anatomy & Physiology) from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized agency, or its foreign equivalent. Applicants holding a graduate degree outside of an area of instruction must have a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the Life Sciences discipline or subfield of Human Anatomy & Physiology. Experience in higher education teaching, gross anatomy lab instruction and dissection, evidence of teaching excellence and familiarity with technology and LMS are preferred. Computer literacy with email and Microsoft Office products is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
+ Performs sedentary to light work in a ventilated, lighted, and temperature-controlled office setting.
+ Frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, lift light objects (up to 10 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the workday.
