    Job Description

    The essential function of the position within the organization is to supervise and manage operations of the Automotive Shop. The position is responsible for supervising staff, overseeing maintenance and repair of vehicles, ordering parts and supplies, training, planning, department tools, equipment and supplies, budget preparation, regulation compliance, public relations, and reporting. We are looking for candidates with ASC certification who are able to troubleshoot and repair everything from small motors to big trucks.

    Duties and responsibilities

    + Supervise staff, including interviewing, recommending selection, training, assigning work, evaluating work, counseling, disciplining, and recommending termination; prepares periodic employee evaluations.

    + Plan and organizes activities for area of responsibility; schedule and assign tasks, ensuring compliance with company safety standards; assist with completion of departmental tasks as needed.

    + Resolve vehicle and equipment related complaints; provide instruction to other employees on proper handling/operation of vehicles and equipment.

    + Procure quotes on parts and equipment required for maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment; procures quotes on repair jobs not performed in-house to ensure economical, efficient work.

    + Prepare equipment specifications and recommendations; interact with vendors to order parts and equipment for maintenance and repair; pick up parts and delivers to Automotive Shop.

    + Perform clerical functions such as preparing payrolls, performing research, preparing equipment and materials purchase orders, setting up and maintaining files and records, or entering work orders into a computer database, conduct periodic inventory of equipment and materials and returning phone calls.

    + Process daily paperwork including schedules, reports, and personnel information.

    + Oversee and approves expenditures for area of responsibility, under a set dollar limit; purchases operating materials.

    + Gather and maintains information/data to support periodic and special reports documenting activities for area of responsibility.

    + Attend staff meetings and conducts safety meetings to exchange information; attend approved in-service training and technical or professional classes to improve technical or professional skills.

    + Attend safety classes, reinforce and comply with company safety policies

    + Work harmoniously with ESG employees and the public and comply with ESG policies

    Qualifications

    Requires eight years of related experience. High School Diploma or GED and requires education and training equivalent to an associate’s degree or two years of college or specialized vocational training in business management, automotive mechanic or a closely related field. Must have a valid state commercial driver’s license and meet minimum driving standards.

    Knowledge of:

    + Requiring responsibility and opportunity for achieving moderate economies and/or preventing moderate losses through the management or handling of equipment, materials, and supplies of moderate value.

    + Practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions, measurements, or logarithms; may use algebraic solutions of equations and equalities.

    + Requiring decision-making as a significant part of the job, affecting a minor segment of the organization and the general public; works in a dynamic environment with responsibility for achieving goals and objectives.

    + Requiring responsibility for the actions of others, affecting subordinate workers, customers, or others in the general public; works in a very fluid environment observing policies and guidelines.

    + Making decisions with moderately serious impact - affects the work unit and may affect other units or citizens.

    Skill in:

    + Coordinating the handling and handles machines, tools, equipment or work aids involving moderate latitude for judgment regarding attainment of a standard or in selecting appropriate items.

    Ability to:

    + Compiling, examining, or evaluating data or information and recommends action based on results.

    + Supervise or direct others by assigning specific duties, maintaining harmonious relations, and promoting efficiency.

    + Instruct and/or train others through explanation, demonstration, and supervised practice, or by making recommendations based on technical disciplines.

    + Read professional publications; compose complex reports; speak to groups outside the organization.

    + Perform supervisory work involving policy and guidelines; the application of logical principles and thinking to solve practical problems within a department of the organization; requires solving both people and work-related problems; continuous, close attention for accurate results and frequent exposure to unusual pressure

     

    Working conditions

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, bright and/or dim light, dust or pollen, intense noise levels, vibration, fumes or noxious odors. All required safety standards shall be adhered to in order to mitigate risk from moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, heights, blood-borne pathogens, traffic, animals and wildlife, toxic or caustic chemicals, and other identified hazards.

    Physical requirements

    This position requires frequent standing, kneeling, bending and climbing. The employee must be able to use hands to operate and manipulate tools and equipment. This position requires very heavy physical exertion including the ability to lift over 50 pounds and exert over 100 pounds of force regularly.

     

    The employee must be willing to work non-standard and overtime hours as required.

     

    The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and depth perception.
